Chapter 19 – The Talk

Chase walked alongside God, passing groups of angels and families rejoicing in Heaven. The joy in the air was palpable; their homeland was safe, and a sense of peace had returned.

As they walked, God turned to him, His expression gentle yet thoughtful. "Chase, may I ask you something?"

"Of course," Chase replied, sensing the weight behind God's question.

"Do my children... hate me?" God's voice was soft, almost uncertain.

Chase looked at Him, surprised. "No, Lord. We never hated You."

God nodded slowly, though his gaze remained troubled. "Then why have I received so many messages that felt like... resentment? Messages from the people on Earth?"

Chase thought carefully. "I think a lot of it comes from the pain people feel when they lose someone they love. Some of that pain can turn into anger, and they might feel like Heaven has turned against them."

God sighed, looking down as if the weight of the world rested upon His shoulders. "Yes, I suppose that's true."

"But Lord," Chase continued gently, "listen to them now." He gestured to the angels and spirits around them, many of whom were softly murmuring prayers of gratitude and joy, thanking God for bringing peace back to Heaven and helping to heal their loved ones.

God closed His eyes, listening to the quiet chorus of gratitude. A small smile softened His face. "You're right, Chase," He said. "They love me. And so do you all. But I had been gone so long, and I left you without any answers..."

Chase nodded. "We missed you. We didn't know where You went. But we understand that You've been watching over us."

God's gaze grew warmer. "And I saw all you did, Chase. You fought bravely, protected those who needed you, and you've done well with Sarah. I'm proud of you."

Chase's chest swelled with pride. "Thank you, Lord."

God continued, "But there's one more thing. You need more training, Chase. You'll need to leave Sarah again to complete it fully."

Chase's heart sank, though he nodded in understanding. "I know... I just hope Sarah won't forget me this time."

God placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "She won't. But let's return to the others now. I'm sure they're waiting."

Together, they walked back toward the field, where angels and spirits were saying their goodbyes. Chase's heart caught as he overheard Sarah's voice, soft with emotion. "I'll miss you, Mom."

"I'll miss you too," Nikki replied, her voice warm with love. "But remember, I'll be watching over you."

"Hey, Chase!" Jackson called, hurrying over.

"Yeah?" Chase replied.

Jackson gestured toward Sarah and John. "It's time to bring them back to Earth."

Chase nodded, stepping over to Nikki. She smiled gently. "So you're Chase," she said, her eyes filled with gratitude. "Thank you for protecting my family."

"It's an honor to meet you," Chase replied, nodding respectfully. "I promise I'll keep them safe."

Nikki gave a final kiss to John, who held her close, his eyes filled with longing. "Goodbye, John," she whispered.

John wiped his eyes, stepping back to join Chase as Sarah hugged her mother tightly. "I'll miss you, Mom," she said, tears streaming down her face.

"I'll be with you always," Nikki replied, touching Sarah's cheek. "Just as I have been all these years."

With a final look, John and Sarah took a step back.

"Let's go home," John said softly.

"Yes, let's," Sarah agreed, taking a deep breath.

With a flash, Chase transported Sarah and John back to their living room. They landed gently, the familiar surroundings bringing a sense of comfort.

"That was... incredible," Sarah whispered, looking around as if Heaven were still with her.

"Agreed," John said, still marveling. "Feels like a dream."

"What day is it, anyway?" Sarah asked, glancing around.

"Only a day has passed," Chase replied, smiling. "Time flows differently up there."

"Oh, wow," John murmured. "It feels like we were gone so much longer."

Sarah turned to Chase, her eyes bright with gratitude. "Thank you... for everything. I can't believe I got to see Mom again."

Chase smiled gently. "I'm glad you did. I knew she'd hear all the prayers you sent her."

John clapped a hand on Chase's shoulder. "So, what's next for you?"

"I'll have to return to Heaven for a while," Chase replied, a touch of regret in his voice. "But I'll come back."

"Then, until next time," Sarah said, offering a soft smile as she watched him vanish.

Back in Heaven, Chase arrived at the gates, where angels were hard at work, lifting and snapping broken pieces back into place. The gates glowed with a renewed brightness as they were restored.

"Chase!" Kim's voice called, and she hurried over, pulling her son into a tight hug.

"Mom, I'm okay," Chase said, laughing softly.

"Just making sure," she replied, ruffling his hair. "And how's Sarah? And John?"

"They're both good. But..." Chase hesitated. "I'll have to leave Sarah again. I need more training."

Adam nodded, placing a hand on his son's shoulder. "You're right. It'll be hard, but you're on the right path. And don't worry. She won't forget you."

"I hope not," Chase replied, determination in his eyes. "But for now, let's get things back in order here. When everything's rebuilt, I'll go back to say goodbye to her properly."

"Good man," Adam said with a proud smile. "Now come on, let's get to work."

Chase extended his hand, chanting "Wan vep gnu ju!" A stream of white light shot from his hand, knitting the broken wall back together until it gleamed with renewed strength. Heaven's walls, gates, and fields slowly regained their former glory.

"Alright, son," Adam said, wiping his brow. "You should rest, then tell Sarah goodbye tomorrow."

Chase nodded, exhaustion pulling at him as he returned to his cloud. His mother gently stroked his hair as he drifted to sleep, her touch soothing. Heaven was safe, and soon, he would have the chance to say a proper farewell to the girl who'd changed his life.
