I woke up on the highway next to the horse. Sophia held onto my arm still asleep. I picked her up and put her on the horse with me holding my side. I started back to the house and tried to ignore my pounding head. Going down the dirt road it sped up and jumped over the fence. I didn't slow the horse down not wanting to be gone any longer. Sophia woke up and looked around at the farm. I slowed the horse down when everyone stepped out of the house and the group walked up. I can only imagine how it looked. The bright sun against my back with blood covering me and Sophia sitting in front of me. I stopped and handed her to Rick. Carol came running out and started crying when she threw her arms around her daughter. I got down and stumbled. Rick caught me and yelled for Hershel.
I walked into the room to see a brand new baby in my sister's arms. Merle stood next to her with a small smile on his face. I reached out to touch his arm but it fell to ashes. I backed away and it all fell to ashes. Falling into a dark abyss I hit a solid surface. The smell of dirt hit my nose and I looked over to see me lying in the grass of the farm. I looked down at the hand holding mine. His rough thumb went in circles on my palm and then it stopped. Looking over I saw Daryl change in a blink of an eye. I jumped away from him and pointed my gun at him. I heard a groan behind me making me turn. Greene and Andrews stood laughing before turning into walkers. I fell to my knees and screamed. I knew I couldn't kill them even if I would die. I slowly moved the barrel to my temple and pulled the trigger.
Waking up quickly I sat up gasping for air. I felt the soft bed under me and saw the bandages wrapped around my torso. I rubbed my face after realizing it was just a dream. "Tried to wake ya." I jumped when I heard Daryl. He laid next to me with the blanket covering his chest. "You started crying." "Thanks.. What happened to you?" "Damn horse kicked me off and threw me down a cliff." I raised an eyebrow knowing that wasn't all of it. "Fell on my arrow. Andrea shot me." I started to laugh and laid back on the bed. "It isn't funny." "Kind of is." He threw the pillow at me and turned over. My laughing stopped when I saw the scars on his back. Not wanting to make him uncomfortable I didn't mention it. Hershel walked in and smiled. "You have a visitor." I nodded and Carol walked in. I sat back up and Sophia jumped on the bed. "Good to see you're feeling better." "Baby give her some room. I wanted to thank you. Both of you."
"Don't. If Daryl wouldn't have told me that she would be near the creek I never would've found her. He saved her not me." I looked over at Daryl and could tell me was glad to hear it by the way his muscles relaxed. "It doesn't seem very fair the two people who did the most are now laying in bed seriously injured." I shrugged and Daryl flashed Sophia a smile. They left leaving us to rest and I went to get up. "Where are you going?" "Out of here." "Good luck, Santa out there won't let you leave the room."
I rolled my eyes and fell on my face. I heard Daryl laugh slightly making me smile even through the pain. "Sometimes I forget it's gone." "What is?" "A piece of me." I looked around the room and didn't see the prosthetic anywhere. Maggie opened the door and hurried over to me. It pissed me off knowing I was sort of helpless in this position. "You're supposed to be in bed." "Well now I'm on the floor. Get me my leg." I threw her a glare and she went to get it out of the hall. "He's going to be mad." "We'll blame it on Daryl." She helped me sit on the bed and I put the prosthetic back on. I grabbed my tank top off the night stand and slid it on. I put my hair up and left the room with Maggie. Greene and Andrews smiled and clapped me on the back. "Good job Serge." "You too boys." I walked outside and sat on the swing.
"Do you miss him?" "Who? Merle?" Maggie nodded and I shrugged. "Miss my sister more. She's always listened to her heart more than her head." "Maybe that's not a bad thing. He was worried about you when we brought you in. He kept trying to see around us while my dad worked on you."
I tried to ignore the thought about Daryl being concerned for me. I didn't know him and he didn't know me. I wasn't here to find love anyway. I'm here to survive. Maggie sat next to me smiling. "Yes?" "Glenn and I.. had sex." She whispered the last part making me laugh. Glenn walked up on the porch making me laugh harder. He looked clueless at first until Maggie laughed with me. He looked embarrassed and walked inside.
"Was it good?" "Well duh but I won't tell him that." We sat there for a while just laughing like a bunch of idiots until Hershel called her in. I was about to slip away when Hershel called me in as well. I watched the horse Daryl was on run by and walked in. "Yes?" "You need to be in bed with a concussion like that." "I'll be fine." He glared at me and I walked back to the bedroom. "Your favorite horse is back." "Shut up." He pushed past me and started to leave. "Where are you going?" "Mind your own business." I rolled my eyes and grabbed my jacket. "I thought I told you-" "Relax if anything happens I'll lay down." I lit a cigarette when I was outside and put my lighter in my pocket. I pulled out my rosary and put it on.
"What's up Glenn?" "Do you know the barn is full of walkers?" "Sure as hell didn't." He looked down at the barn and saw Maggie on the porch. "She'll be fine. You need to do what you need to do Glenn." "Lori's also pregnant." I stopped and looked at him. "Anything else you need to tell me? Is Dale really a woman now too?" He laughed and shook his head. "No that's it." I watched Daryl poking holes in his tent with his last arrow.
I walked to the jeep and opened the back. I pulled out the extra arrows from the archery stuff and walked down to Daryl. "Hey Daryl!" "God damn woman! Can't you leave me alone for five seconds?" I ignored him and opened his tent. "I saw that you're on your last arrow. We got these on a run and I have another one for my bow so.. ya." I laid them down and walked away. "Where's my gift?" "I can put a nice shiny bullet through your head if that makes you happy." Shane stepped up to me pissed off. "You've got quite an attitude." "And you've got quite a talent for lying. You shot Otis and Jon. Who's next?"
"I was thinking you." He put his hand around my throat and slammed me into a tree. "You're getting weak Ellis." I pulled my knife out and ran it across his back. He let me go and kicked me in the stomach. "You bitch!" "You asked for it." He stormed off with his back bleeding. I leaned up against the tree and started to catch my breath. I watched Sophia sit at the table with Carl as though she never left. Everything seemed normal.
"What are you staring at?" "Definitely not your ugly ass, Andrews." "Oh haha." Greene sat down next to me joined shortly by an annoyed Andrews. "The barn is full of walkers, they have a pregnant woman, Merle ran off with my sister and Daryl took an arrow through the stomach. Is there anything you two want to do before I blow up?" "Greene and I are dating."
"You're kidding?" I looked at the two of them and threw my arms around their shoulders. "This is unexpected." "You aren't mad?" "No. Just surprised you two didn't tell me before." I laid back and watch the clouds move around. Something so gentle covering a world full of death and hurt.
