I could barely grab the knife from Daryl's waist my hand was shaking so much. "Maggie I need you to cut them off." "I can't." "Maggie! It's three fingers now or my life later." She took the knife and I spread my hand out on the hot road. It went all the way through and I let out a scream of pain. "How do you know that'll work?" "We had to cut my father's leg off after he was bit and he's fine now." Daryl picked me up and ran to their infirmary. I held onto his shirt until he laid me down. I watched the woman push him out of the room. I tried yelling for him but it came out as whispers.
*Daryl*
Nothing is ever simple for her. She always has to save someone but I love that about her. I know she'll get past this but I don't know when. I sat on the ground outside the room and kept throwing my knife into the ground. Everyone's blood who I've cared about has been on this knife now. Maggie came in shaking and looked like she had been crying. Glenn had his arm wrapped around her trying to comfort her. Made me jealous of how he's so comfortable in public around her. Grace says it doesn't bother her but I catch her looking at other people with a hint of jealousy. She's everything I could ever want. If I met her before this all went down I like to think we would still be getting married. If Merle was here right now he'd beat my ass for going soft on her. Never thought I'd be doing this all without Merle. Said we were going to stand by each other forever and he went off and got himself killed. The door opened making me jump. I stood up and looked over her shoulder at Grace. "Can I see her?" "She's lost a lot of blood and we're worried about her dying from the bite. If she's fine by morning she can go home." "Can I see her?" She moved out of the way and I went over to her. I pulled the curtain giving us privacy and sat next to her. She squeezed my hand lightly and turned to look at me. "I'm sorry Daryl.." "There ain't nothing to apologize for. Could've happened to anyone." I wiped the tears off her face and kissed her head. "Everything will be fine." As I looked at her I wondered if it was true.
*Grace*
I was able to go home two days after since I lost consciousness for a few hours. I walked in the house and put my gun next to the door. Everything was quiet surprisingly. I walked in the kitchen and Maggie was sitting at the table. I sat next to her and opened a water. "I'm so sorry." "For what? I shouldn't have let you come out with me. I'm fine Maggie." She sighed and looked at Glenn who walked up from the basement. "Morning Glenn. Have you seen Daryl?" "Upstairs." I hurried up the stairs and opened the bedroom door. I crossed my arms and looked at Daryl's back. I put my arms around his neck and leaned on him. "I think we should call this whole thing off." "The wedding?" "No.. Us." He got angry and turned around. "Why?" "I ain't worth it! You think I fucking walk on water! News flash Daryl I just lost three fucking fingers! Ain't nothing pretty about that."
He slammed the door and came back a minute later. His lips fell to mine and he grabbed my hand. When he felt the right one we both stopped and looked over at it. I fell into his chest not wanting to look at it. He lifted my head and looked down at my watery green eyes. "What did I say about hiding from me?" When we hit the bed we didn't continue on instead we stopped and he just held me. I didn't want to leave but a part of me kept screaming for me to run. As I laid there listening to his heart beat it gave me a sense of belonging. "Our fights don't last long do they?" "They're just arguments. You'll know a fight when we have one." "How do ya really feel about all this?"
"I'm about to spend the rest of my life with the love of my life. That's how I feel." I got off him and we walked downstairs. Daryl went out for a smoke and I decided to sit down with Maggie and Glenn. They both kept looking over at me like something was wrong. "Yes?" "We heard you two fighting." "Arguing. We're fine just stress is all." "I'm going to go on a walk." The moment Glenn was out the door Maggie turned her attention over to me. "We're getting married next week." "How's Glenn handling it?" "I think he's more excited than I am." We both started laughing until Daryl walked in. I smiled over at him and he sat next to me. I put my hand up to my nose and felt my stomach churn. I ran to the bathroom and puked.
"Grace?" "I'll be out in a minute." I washed my face and slowly walked back out. Daryl came towards me and I put my arm out to stop him. I went back in the bathroom and Maggie came in and held back my falling hair. She shut the door on a concerned Daryl. "I think I'm pregnant.." "How?" "I don't know maybe the fact that Daryl and I have been sleeping with each other for months.." She rolled her eyes and I leaned against the wall. "Have you been tired lately?" "Hard to really say. I mean I work a lot around the town and then come home to Daryl so.." I smiled at the thought of what we've been doing the past months. "I've got a test in my bag. I'll go get it." I nodded and started wondering why she had one in her bag. She came back downstairs ignoring Daryl at the door.
I put the stick in my pocket and slipped out the bathroom. I threw it away and walked upstairs to see Daryl fresh out of the shower. I smiled and leaned against the door frame. I heard Glenn come in and went back downstairs. Maggie gave me a look but I shook my head. Nothing could get as worse as this is.
