Shattered

Chapter Twelve: Home

      "Grace be careful around the fire." "I know Momma." I grabbed the marshmallow from Mary and stuffed it in my mouth. "You look like a chipmunk." I smiled and my mom laughed. "Daddy can I have another one?" "Sure short round."  I grabbed it from his hand and bit it in half giving one side to Mary. We put them in our cheeks and started laughing. "Don't choke girls." "We won't!"  I sat on the log and put the blanket around Mary and me. We sat there watching the fire in the cold winter wind.

      I dove out of the way of another walker and pushed it into the fire. It made a screaming noise before falling dead. Another came out of the brush and I quickly lunged for it plunging my knife into it's skull. I jumped on Nelly and left the small camp. I was going through the woods when I noticed walkers heading to a house. I grabbed the bat I had in a pouch and killed one of them. I listened as it hit the ground and heard the distant sound of a motorcycle. I ditched the walkers and headed for the motorcycle. The walkers didn't even follow me this time instead they went in the house looking for something. I went down into the woods not wanting to run into any other bad groups of people. I heard the motorcycle start up again and heard cars with it. I slowly followed through the woods. I went down to an old rail road track and followed that down. I saw the prison and heard shooting. Nelly started freaking out and almost threw me off. I started petting her face trying to get her to calm down. I tied her to a nearby tree and grabbed my sniper. I climbed up the closest tree and saw the group's cars. Instead of jumping for joy I started taking out the walkers in the yard and around the front entrance hoping whatever plan they had worked. Rick was closing the gate when I shot a walker in front of him trying to bite him through a hole in the gate. I took a few out in the yard while I was at it and decided to stay there for the night.

       I woke up when early the next morning to see them already up and moving. I grabbed more ammo from my pocket and got ready. When they went in I started shooting at the ones that kept getting too close. I could tell they were confused but it was easier to get it done this way. I'd rather have ammo for side arms and other guns instead of the one I'm using. It's great and all but the kickback is a bitch.

     I was honestly to see Nelly was still alive and unharmed in the morning. When they started to head in that's when I made my way to the prison. I opened the front gate and chained it behind me. I left Nelly tied to the guard tower. I walked in slowly and Rick was the first one to put a gun in my face. He looked shocked to see me. I smiled and had my hands up. He put his arms around me and I just smiled. He led me into the cell block and everyone stepped out to see who came in. So there I stood covered in blood, dirt and who knows what else. Carol ran up and threw her arms around me. "I thought you were dead." "I'm not surprised." I looked back and hugged Maggie. She started crying and smiled. "Just when I finally made a new best friend." "Shut up.." We both smiled and everyone welcomed me back. "Where's Andrea? Sophia?" "They didn't make it.."

       I felt like I was punched in the gut. I looked at everyone and saw Lori's round stomach, Hershel's beard, everyone changed so much. I looked up at the perch and saw Daryl standing there. I looked away from him and Rick followed me over to a table. I put the bags on it and opened them. "Guns I have plenty of. I just raided a gas station before I found you so I have some food." "You were the one shooting last night and this morning weren't you?" "I was in a tree across the creek. Had a good horse to keep me company." Hershel walked in and smiled. "I took Nervous Nelly." "I'm surprised you made it this far with her." "We bonded." 

      Daryl walked in and everyone left. "You're back from the dead." "Guess so." "Didn't happen to see Merle did you?" I shook my head and brushed my hair back. "I can see you've bonded with Rick." "I guess." He was almost out of the room when I called his name. He turned back waiting for me to stay something but I just shook my head. I walked into the cellblock found a cell.
