"That damn girlfriend of his." I angrily muttered under my breath, only loud enough for me and my best friend, y/f/n, to hear, while staring at Ryan who was talking to Helena

"Oh come on, y/n. He's your friend and you should be happy for him, even if you have a little crush on him. Besides, it's his birthday." Y/f/n said

It's not exactly a 'little' crush, but whatever

"But, y/f/n, I feel like he likes me too." I hesitantly stated

"Y/n. He. Has. A. Girlfriend." She said, making it clear

"Whatever." I said crossing my arms over my chest

"Don't act weird because they're walking over here." She said, nudging me with her elbow

"Hey guys." Ryan smiled, his arm wrapped around Helena's waist

"Hey, Ry! Happy birthday!" I exclaimed, plastering a fake smile on my face

"Hi, Helena." I said, adding a fake tone of happiness in my voice

Helena simply waved and smiled

"Babe, can I just talk to y/n really quick?" Ryan asked Helena

"Mhm." She answered before walking away along with y/f/n

"Are you ok?" He asked

"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" I lied

"You seem kinda... off." He inferred

"Nah, I'm fine." I lied again

"Come on, y/n. I've known you long enough to be able to tell that you're not fine." He said putting a little bit more emphasis on 'fine'

"Ry, I think Helena is waiting for you." I changed the subject

"She can wait. Just talk to me, y/n." He said

"Ry, it's really nothing." I insisted

"Well, one more thing." He said, quickly pressing his lips to mine

We broke the kiss "Ryan, wha-" I started before I was cut off by Helena shoving me away from Ryan

"I'm so sorry, babe. It was an accident." He said, not sounding serious about his apology

"Ryan! I was literally over there it was not an "accident"." Helena yelled, using air quotes when she said 'accident'

"No. Don't leave me. Not on my birthday." He said with almost no emotion

Honestly, I was holding back giggles

"Fuck you Ryan!" Helena yelled before leaving

Once she was gone, Ryan and I broke into a fit of laughter

"Oh my god!" He laughed

I said nothing and continued to laugh with him

"Y/n, I've honestly liked you for a really long time. Dating Helena was a stupid mistake and I should've been with you." He said, embracing me into a hug

"It's ok, Ryan." I muttered into his chest

He pressed his lips to mine

"Happy birthday, Ryan." I said after we came out of the kiss
