A/N: Okay so the writing that's in italics is what's being said through sign language in case that's not clear.
Let me know if there are any mistakes in spelling or grammar.

UPDATE 10/2016: Guys I finally found someone who looks like Ezra omg I included it above!!"I didn't know you went to counselling," Luke said as Ezra wandered back into her room. She didn't look surprised to find him sitting there. He looked like he'd been waiting for a while.
She shrugged, sitting down on her bed.
"How did they talk you through things?" He asked, "I mean, it's not like you can say anything."
She moved her hands a little.
Like this.
"Sign language?" Luke wished her face hadn't lit up so much when he said that, because he couldn't actually understand what she had signed. He'd just assumed.
She caught on pretty quickly and tried to hide her disappointment. She was yet to find someone at Dalacine who knew sign language but didn't work there. It was beginning to get frustrating. The whole point of her learning the language was so that she could communicate with people more, but no one understood what she was trying to say anyway. Why had she bothered?
Luke watched as she picked up an energy drink can. She hadn't bothered to read how much caffeine was in it, because she knew either way it would be too much.
"I still don't think you should be drinking those every day," Luke said. He knew it was pointless to try and persuade her not to. Ever since he had found out about how she got the caffeine, he had realised just how sly she really was. Everyone seemed to assume that because she was mute, she was shy and sensible. The truth was that she was the opposite, but being mute meant that she could get away with it without any suspicion.
As he expected, she just shrugged. She didn't even look at him this time.
Ezra was too caught up in her own thoughts to pay much attention to Luke, but he hadn't seemed to have realised that yet.
There were lots of things in Ezra's mind, like the next time she'd be able to see Nathan and Amelia, or how much longer her caffeine stash would last. She tried the best she could to keep herself from dropping into her own mind too often, but it was difficult when you couldn't distract yourself with a conversation.
Luke was chatting away about something, and he often did that without realising that Ezra wasn't listening.
It wasn't like he could quiz her on what she had been listening to, so she didn't really care. She stared at his face. His features were soft, giving him this look that made him seem kind, approachable even. He seemed so innocent with a face like that.
But the more she looked at him, the less real he seemed to become.
She couldn't look at him, even when he asked her a question. His eyes were burning into her skin but she just couldn't look at him. She played with the edge of her sleeve instead.
"Ezra, is something wrong?" She could hear the concern in his voice. It wasn't real, was it? Was he real? Was Dalacine even real?
She shook her head.
Luckily for Ezra, she felt a little better by the time her nurse walked in, telling her it was time to go to the cafeteria. Luke had been there the whole time, but he seemed to get the message that she didn't want him to keep talking.
He had obviously sensed that something was wrong, but without her giving him an answer there wasn't much he could do to help.
Ezra didn't know why Luke held her hand as they walked to the cafeteria but she didn't mind. There was something reassuring about it. If you could touch it, that meant it was real, right?
