Soul's POV:

While I continued talking with my grandma I heard Maka yelling outside the door.

"TSUBAKI! BLACK STAR!"

"Oh, that can't be good . . ." I mumbled angrily then rubbed my face.

"What is happening, Soul?" My grandma asked worriedly.

"Nothing, Grammy. I . . . my friends need help, it seems." I admitted. She smiled kindly and waved towards the door.

"Go on then, and tell Wes to come by if you see him, if it's not too much trouble. And go see that girl you like." She winked at me.

With my face a light red, I made my way out into the hallway that was eerily quiet. You could only hear the music that Mother played on her old record player. I made my way to the next floor down, which was the start of the basement (we have a couple lower floors besides the first floor). If Black Star was missing and Hilary had something to do with it, there is a huge chance Black Star is there.

I went down and opened the first door and found Black Star passed out on the couch, snoring loudly.

"Hey. Hey, Black Star." I called out gently shaking him. "What the . . ." I trailed off looking around. The walls were slightly burned and Black Star looked a little beat up. With a sigh I pulled one of his arms around my shoulders and leaned him on me so I could drag him out the door.

I would've liked to stay longer and talk more with my grandma, but with the way things were going I knew I had to get Maka and them out of the house. My family was like poison and my friends would drown in it.

I started pulling Black Star out of the room when I heard the familiar clicking of Hilary's heels.

"Hello, Soul-kun." She greeted sweetly.

"Why are you even here?" I demanded.

"For you, Soul-kun. I see you found your friend." Her voice took on a nasty sneer when she said friend.

I didn't bother with it though. I needed to leave. "Where are they? I know you messed with them." I growled.

"Soul-kun . . ." She whispered sadly, her black hair covering her face. "Don't you want to talk with  me a bit longer? I could tell you where they were afterwards."

"No. If I did you'd come up with some way for me to stay here." I snapped. I pushed past her. "It'd be better for me if you never spoke with me again-"

"IT'S THAT GIRL! ISN'T IT!?!" She shouted.

"That's none of your-"

"It is isn't it? It's that ugly girl with the flat chest. She's the one who's making you act this way!"

"I'm being myself, Hilary. Something I couldn't do around here before." I yelled turning back to her.

"But . . . you were perfect the way you were before!" She shouted. Fury and anger sprung into her eyes and expressions, but I wasn't backing down.

"I wasn't happy! I never wanted to come back because I was free! FINALLY I was free. After spending all my life as this family's puppet, I became my own person and became someone for my friends to rely on. This person here is the real me, and I'm never letting anyone else take that away from me." I turned and walked up the stairs again, dragging Black Star with me.

"So you'll leave me!?" She shouted. "I LOVE you, Soul-kun! I love you and they way you were before this whole weapons business came up!"

"You don't love me. You only want something from me."

"That's not true! I really love you Soul!" Hilary cried, her hands pulled close to her chest while she shook.

"You only want something from me. That's all you ever want."

"Soul-"

"Shut up, Hilary!" Then I sighed. "Man, this is so uncool."

"Soul . . . please . . . don't leave me like this. Just . . . just come back to me. I know the real you is in there somewhere. The one who played the piano so beautifully."

"Leave me alone, Hilary. You're just some crazy girl who my parents found who has too many problems to count. And you're right, I do have someone else that I care for, and she needs me right now, because I have a feeling you just sent her and my other friends on a heck of a trip and they're going to need me. So, if you'll excuse me, I'll be going."

"You'll regret this, Soul Evans." She whispered angrily.

I stopped again, but it was the last time. "It's Soul Eater. I'm not an Evans anymore, and I never will be again."

With that I climbed the rest of the steps and proceeded to find my friends, leaving Hilary alone in the basement angry and rejected.
