THE SURROGATE
CHAPTER 60
*DARCY'S P.O.V*
Darcy stood in the doorway of Luke's room with her arms crossed over her chest and her eyebrows furrowed as she watched Bella and Luke blissfully sleep off their high. An hour had passerine she was still incredibly pissed off at them. How could they get high today!?  Why would he put her at risk of relapsing again!? Darcy wanted nothing more than to just throw water over them and to rudely wake them up from their slumber; they don't deserve sleep!

"Hey," she felt a hand around her waist, "you still angry? " it was Daniel, now standing next to her,  with his arms also crossed over his chest. With furrowed eyebrows Darcy nodded her head slowly. "Want to-" "how could he possibly get her high today of all days!?  I mean -" "I don't think they knew that what happened today would happen! We didn't even know it would happen! " Daniel interjected. "Was it necessary for him to get her high?  What if this causes her to relapse" she said, whispering quite loudly. "Are you sure they're the one you're angry at?" he asked, directing his head towards Bella and Luke, "or is it the Freemans that's got you so high strung?" he asked, looking into her eyes. She looked back into his and zoned out as the memory of the Freemans strolled into her mind. It was a hours ago, but the feeling of hatred towards them was still fresh.

Darcy, Daniel and Beau were just relaxing at home; James and Jai had gone out scouting for females. Daniel and Beau were playing video games, Darcy was baking cupcakes, when they heard a knock on the door. Thinking that it was Bella, she excitedly ran to the.door. Imagine her surprise when she opened the door and saw Mr and Mrs Freeman standing at the door, with the baby in the seat being held by Mr Freeman. She couldn't hide her surprise even if she tried. They must have noticed it, because Mrs Freeman was the first to speak and break the silence. "I realise that this must come as a shock to you," she smiled, "but we went for a drive and thought we'd make a stop here" she paused, probably waiting for a response or reaction from Darcy; she got neither. "Anyway," Mrs Freeman continued, "we missed Bella and thought that maybe she wanted to spend some time with this little guy" she said, smiling towards the baby. With wide eyes, still in shock, Darcy was finally able to form words. "How did- how did you know the address? " Darcy asked, it might not have been what they wanted to hear, but that was all she could come up with. "Bella gave it to us" Mr Freeman responded and said nothing more. Darcy nodded her head slowly.
"who's at the door? " she heard Daniel call from the living room, snapping her out of her stupor. Completely ignoring his question, she stepped to the side and asked them, if they wanted to come in. They did.
When Daniel and Beau caught sight of them, their reaction matched Darcy's. "You can just sit here" she said, pointing to a double couch, "and you can put him-" she said, catching sight of the baby and losing her train of thought as she stared at him. This was him, this was the baby that caused the downfall of her best friend. She knew that it wasn't the baby's fault, but she couldn't help but partly blame him. All of them sat awkwardly in silence.
"Bella isn't here at the moment!  But if you guys are willing to wait, I can call her?" Darcy offered, to which they just nodded their heads. She walked into the kitchen and thus tried multiple times to get hold of her. Unsuccessful, she returned to the living room, told the Freemans and they left.

She was snapped out of her memory by the familiar feeling of Daniel wrapping his arms around her. "Don't worry about it too much" he.said, hugging.her tighter, resting his chin on top of her head. That was easier said than done. "I just can't understand why they would bring him here! " he said, shaking her head in his chest. Daniel didn't say anything, and she was grateful because this gave her a chance to get everything out faster. "Did they do that on purpose?  To rub in her face how happy they are? Are they really that spiteful?  Or did they just think it would be a nice surprise for her to see the baby that she has tried so hard to get over?  I just don't get it!" she finished off and Daniel still remained silent. Not knowing their true intentions was killing her! Whatever their intentions were, she was glad that Bella wasn't here; it was definitely a sign from the universe that she shouldn't see them or the baby.

"Come on, let's leave them alone" Daniel whispered, letting go of Darcy and kissing her forehead. "You go. I just need a minute" she said, smiling up at Daniel, who then nodded his head and left. When Daniel was gone, Darcy tiptoed into the room, and to the side of the bed Bella was lying on. She looked down at her best friend and stopped the tears before they even started. She hated seeing Bella this way; this was not the Bella that she was used to, the Bella that was always happy and optimistic. The Bella she was looking at now was filled with sadness and regret. She hated herself for allowing Bella to go through with this whole surrogacy thing. Sure it was important for her to be the good, supportive friend, but at what expense?  What did Bella even achieve from doing this? An alcohol addiction? Constantly feeling like she had a void that could never be filled?  Depression? She should've stood her ground and told Bella no! Nothing good came out of this for Bella and she hated it!

"I'm so, so sorry!" she whispered, running her hand gently on Bella's head. "I'm so sorry that you had to go through this!" she said and leaned down to kiss her best friend on the forehead.

Pulling herself together, Darcy glanced at them one more time before leaving the room and joining the rest of the guys inside.
