Chapter 10: Lurking in the wind

Scully

   Mulder was more hurt then she had ever seen him. He was in pain. Even when his mother passed away he wasn't as sad. She knew why though. He thought of Marks as the sister he never got to have and he didn't want to loose her. Mulder saw her as a place he could confine to, to deal with the loss of his sister.
   As they drove to all the warehouses in LA, Mulder grew weary. So did she. She also thought of her as a sister, and she grew close to her the years she took care of here even if she was only five and six. She cared more about Marks and Mulder then most people in her life.
   "Maybe we should go to the park." Mulder said rubbing his face. He hadn't slept for a while.
   Nether had she. "How bout we do tomorrow. You need sleep. I need sleep. As your doctor I order you and myself to sleep."
   "Fine," Mulder drove the car to a hotel just in front of the park.
   "Good now go to your room and sleep."
   Mulder pouted, "ok."
   "Ok."
   "I can't promise you I will fall asleep."
   "Then I will go to your room until you do." She said concerned but also not wanting to be alone.
   "Fine."
   She took the elevator to her room and stored her bags there. She went to Mulder's room and went inside to see him crying on the couch. "I can't do it Scully."
   "What can't you do?"
   "I can't sleep. Not with him beating her."
   She walked over to him. She was also tearing up, " Mulder we will find her tomorrow. Krychek will be punished to the full extent. I hate him more then I ever had. And I know that you do too."
   "Scully. She is like my sister. I can't loose her. Not now. Not ever."
   She was crying hard now. She walked over to Mulder hugging him tightly. "I scared."
   "Me too"
   A nock was at Mulder's hotel room door. Mulder stood up and opened the door.
   A tape laid on the floor.
   "Not again."
   "Do you want to watch it," she said, her voice shaking.
  "Do we have a choice."
   He put it in the tv and Krychek's face appeared. "I see you were searching for her. Bad move. If I don't see you at that park tomorrow I will kill her. But for now this will do."
   A bruised, bloody, cut, swollen, crying Marks was shown on the camera.
   Kryacheck walked up to her and stabbed her in the stomach, Marks cried out in pain but soon fainted.
  Mulder flinched, quiet tears rolling down their faces.
   Marks slightly came to and Krychek took the taser he had with him and shocked her. Marks started seizing and Krychek stopped her. "Now you see what I am capable of. Tomorrow. Remember."
   Then the video quit.
   Together Mulder and her cried. Until Mulder finally fell asleep in Scully's arms.
