The five members of Fleetwood Mac and their two producers held their breath as the ‘Recording’ light went on above their heads. They heard Demi take a deep breath and she began to play a melody on her guitar. As if they weren’t awestruck enough, she then began to sing.
“Did you forget
That I was even alive?
Did you forget
Everything we ever had?
Did you forget?
Did you forget
About me?”
They listened in awe as the beautifully sad words tumbled from Demi’s lips. The musicians of the band nodded at her perfect guitar playing and Stevie smiled at Demi’s singing technique and lyrics. Just when they thought the song couldn’t get any better, Demi kicked it up a notch, upping the tempo she was playing the guitar in. Everything got faster and her voice became a painful but striking scream.
“Somewhere we went wrong.
We were once so strong!
Our love is like a song.
You can’t forget it
At all!”
Just as quickly as it had started, the screaming stopped. The atmosphere in the studio went quiet and sombre as Demi finished the song.
“And at last
All the pictures have been burned.
And all the past
Is just a lesson that we’ve learned.
I won’t forget,
Please don’t forget…
Us.”
She took a deep breath, the tears now rolling steadily down her cheeks as she continued to sing.
“Somewhere we went wrong.
We were once so strong!
But you won’t sing along.
You’ve forgotten about…us.”
The ‘Recording’ light went off and the band and producers sat silent in the control room. Demi looked up at them after a few minutes and smiled weakly. The others watched as Lindsey rose silently from his seat and walked into the studio. He made a beeline for Demi. As soon as he reached her, he held her face in his hands and planted an adoring kissed on her lips. “You were perfect.” Lindsey whispered, resting his forehead on hers. Demi laughed uneasily. “Thanks.” She replied. “Whoever that guy was; he can go fuck himself.” Lindsey said, making Demi laughed. “Yea! You tell him, Linds!” Demi and Lindsey looked over to the control room window, where Richard was waving, having just eavesdropped on their intimate moment. “Screw you, Dashut.” Lindsey said, taking Demi’s hand and leading her back into the control room. “No, you like to screw her, not me.” Richard said cockily, pointing at Demi. “You told everyone?” Demi asked. “No! I didn’t even tell him directly! But now everyone knows.” Lindsey replied, scowling at Richard. “You’ll have to marry her now, old boy. Now you’ve sealed the deal.” Mick said, opening another beer. Stevie rushed over to Demi’s side. “Demi, you were amazing. Please tell me you’ve got more songs!” Demi shrugged. “I said I’d only do one song.” “But you’re so good! Tell her Lindsey!” Lindsey nodded in agreement with Stevie. “You were far better than I originally thought.” Lindsey confessed. Demi looked from face to face, taking in the amazed expressions of each individual in the room. “But I have work to do.” She said finally. “We can do it here on the side. And back at my place.” Lindsey said quickly. “I’ll help produce it when Lindsey’s busy.” Richard offered. “How much?” Demi asked. “For free. You’re letting us use your studio to create our masterpiece.” Demi smiled. She took a deep breath. Looking up at Lindsey, she squeezed his hand. “Okay. Let’s do it.”
