Happy reading xx

-Alyssa's POV-

Finally having the courage to move, I jogged- no, sprinted home. I knew it was only a 15 minute walk maximum but it felt as if it was taking hours for me to reach home, sprinting.

I barged through the door and headed straight to the living room.

I found mom sitting on the couch with two police officers sitting opposite her. A few papers were scattered on the glass coffee table.

Fear ran through my veins as I took a seat next to mom.

"How long has she been missing?" One of the officers with a name tag Paul, asked.

"About 6 hours." mom replied.

Thinking about it, I haven't seen Jen since I left.

"Sorry ma'am but you can't file a missing child report unless she has been missing for 24 hours or more. Anything less than that cannot be filed." another officer named Harry, replied.

"We will only file the case if she hasn't been found after the time span. Actions will be taken." Paul informed.

"The station will send out the police force out to look for her once the case is filed." he continued.

"But she's below the age of 12." Mom protested.

"Sorry Mrs Taylor. The same policy applies to anyone even if she is 18."

"Thank you officers." Mom said sadly.

They nodded in response.

We got up and led the officers out.

"Jen is missing." Mom broke the news.

Should I tell her?

"When? How?"

"I don't know. I walked out after getting the ingredients ready to cook lunch. I called for her but she didn't respond. I looked in her room, the backyard, everywhere but she was no where to be found." Mom teared up.

I hugged her and convinced her that Jen was coming back even though I knew she wasn't. I couldn't tell her. Not yet.

I walked up the stairs and into Jen's room. I grabbed the teddy bear she held every night to sleep and clutched it close to my chest. I glanced at the bear again. Tears brimmed my eyes.

I slid down onto the floor and tears fell on my cheek, one by one.

My only sister left is gone.

I protected her with my life but I felt as if it was my fault. I had one task. ONE. And I couldn't even do it. Protect my sister and my mother. I couldn't even do something as simple as that.

What if I lost mom too?

The doorbell rang.

I got up and dragged myself down four flights of stairs.

God damn this big three story house.

I twisted the lock on the glass door and it made a snapping noise, opening it.

In front of me stood Grayson.

Yes, greek god Grayson.

"Hey Alyssa." he smiled.

"How do you know where I live?"

"Uhh, there was a homemade sign on your mailbox."

"It said TAYLOR'S RESIDENCE (ALYSSA, ME AND MOMMY)" he continued.

I laughed. Oh Jen.

Jen. Jen's gone Alyssa.

Memories came flooding back into my head and my eyes started to water again. Grayson noticed it and went into concern mode.

"Hey. What's wrong?" he asked, softly.

Unable to maintain eye contact, I switched my gaze to the floor. Admiring the beauty and shine of the marble floor.

Grayson used his index finger and thumb to lift my chin, leaving me no choice but to make eye contact.

"What's wrong?"

I sighed. Do I tell him?

"Before you start, are you going to let me in or let me stand under the scorching hot sun burning my already burnt skin." He smirked.

Realising it, a blush crept it's way onto my cheeks.

"Sorry, come in." I gestured and pulled opened the door a little wider.

I led him to the second floor which held the living room and kitchen. I sat down, took a deep breath and told him EVERYTHING from the very start.

"Hold up. Let me process everything." he said.

"You can see spirits, this house is haunted, you lost your sister, brother, father and Jen, Jen is apparently missing when you know she's dead because they did something to her and now you're afraid." he clarified.

I nodded.

"Alyssa." he smiled sympathetically and engulfed me in his strong muscular arms.

I cried, soaking his shirt.

"Aly?"

I looked up and saw mom. I quickly used my hands and swiped off any stray tear from my face.

"Why are you crying and who is this boy?" she questioned.

"Oh no nothing. Memories of Cara and stuff. This is Grayson, Ada's grandson." I explained.

"Mom, Grayson. Grayson, Mom."

Grayson released me from this arms and stood up.

"Grayson Xavier. It's a pleasure the meet you, Mrs Taylor." he extended his arms.

"Polite young man. Call me Lorraine." Mom smiled.

"Ah, right. Are you and Alyssa together?" She smirked.

Mom. Why?

Kill me now.

"N-no, Mrs Tay- I mean Lorraine." he scratched the back of his neck.

"Doesn't look like you're not together from what I saw. I'm going to go now. You guys do whatever you were doing." Mom smirked and disappeared into the kitchen.

I want to dig a hole, crawl in it and die.

Why would she do this to me? Great, now Grayson think mom is a psycho.

"What are you thinking about?" Grayson smirked.

My cheeks tinted a light shade of pink.

I mumbled a nothing and looked away.

He laughed. Freaking laughed at me.

Fantastic. I love my life. Note the sarcasm.
