I pull my trench coat tight and my battered fedora lower as I enter the training room. It's cold. Like, arctic cold. The training room is supposed to help prepare us for the arena, so I can only assume that there's gonna be an arctic climate in the actual fight. The other contenders are already all here. I'm late, but that doesn't bother me. This gives me time to quietly observe the other contestants. Kelsey is over at the swimming pool. That girl is like a dolphin, in fact, she's only 4 seconds behind the world record. Unless the arena is an ocean though, I wouldn't consider her much of a threat. Zeth on the other hand terrifies me. I've read his bio, he can do more damage with his hands than most can do with an assault rifle. He's trained in practically every know discipline and has actually co-created his own martial art form. Another big threat would be Eduardo, he's over in weight training benching weights that are thicker than me. This dude is ripped, and if I'm not careful, he'll probably rip me. Abigail is also a concern, she's currently in the library studying human anatomy. She knows 34 different ways to paralyze the human body just by poking different nerve points. She was in prison for attempting to assassinate Matthew, the old dictator of PVC, (he ended up getting deposed anyway). Speaking of Matthew, he's over at the archery range. He's an insanely good shot, but I'm confident I could take him out before he could draw a bead on me. Vinny is over at the tech booth, how predictable. Well, unless the arena is a massive computer bank, I wouldn't consider him a threat.
"Enjoying the show?" A voice from behind me asks. I whip around to find the last of my opponents. Nate is behind me, dressed impeccably as always in a $22,000 suit designed by Zegna Bespoke, complete with tie clip and kerchief.
"What do you think you're doing?" I ask accusingly. He chuckles.
"Same thing as you, gathering information." He grins at me, "this promises to be a very fun game indeed." I step away, feeling unnerved. This guy hasn't displayed physical talent, but he is strategic. I'll have to watch him...
