Kira's heart pounded as she waited in her underground room. When the signal was given, the floor of the room would rise up, carrying her with it. She would be lifted into the arena, and the bloodbath would start. She trembled, not out of fear, but from anticipation. She was confident she could overcome the others. She had built up support with many wealthy individuals who would no doubt send her gifts to aid with dispatching the others. Thirty yards to her right, another contestant sat in his room thinking similar thoughts. Vinny sat wringing his hands nervously. He actually was scared, but he was confident in his abilities. He looked down at his gloves and grinned maliciously. Though they seemed innocent enough, these gloves were nine other than the ones he had modified to deliver lethal electrical shocks. He smuggled them into the arena and plans to use them to their full potential in combat. Vinny also took solace in the fact that he had made a very powerful ally in the games. An ally that would allow him to achieve things that he never could on his own.
A siren sounded and Kelsey felt a jolt as her platform began to rise. She bent her knees and relaxed into a sprinters position.
"I can survive." She told herself, "I can survive." She repeated this a few times before her platform rose up into blinding light. She raised her hand to shield her eyes and waited for them to adjust. When they did, she stifled a gasp of surprise as she surveyed her landscape. She was surrounded by arctic mountains and tundra on all sides.Matthew glanced to his left and to his right; all the contestants were up in the arena. He wasn't surprised by the arctic climate. He had deduced as much based on the temperature at which the training room was kept. He shifted his gaze to the center of the field and surreptitiously eyed the cache of weapons positioned in the center. He spotted a collection of throwing knives and hatchets, a bow and a quiver bridling with arrows, a collection of spears and pikes, swords of all types, and battle axes.
"Contestants! Prepare!" The harsh voice of the announcer ripped through the air. Matthew tensed up as he prepared for the countdown.
"Five... Four... Three... Two... One... Let the games begin!
