Kelsey rose up and stretched all her newly reanimated limbs.
"You really had me worried there for a second." She said, turning to Nate. "I was beginning to think you'd forgotten the plan." Nate chuckled, peeling Vinny's glove off.
"I never forget plans thanks very much." He nodded thoughtfully, "there were other... Complications however." He turned back to Kelsey and smiled. "It's good to have you back, now we're unstoppable."
"Unstoppable?" Kira chimed in, "I'm sorry, but last I checked, Kelsey was the first one killed, and obviously doesn't possess the skills needed to bring down Zeth or Eduardo." Kelsey turned to Kira, confused.
"My skills?" She asked, "oh, you mean that pitiful display I put on against Matthew? That was an act, all part of the plan." Kira stomped angrily.
"Will someone please tell me what the hell you two are talking about! What plan?" Kelsey glanced at Nate,
"Should I kill her?" She asked. Nate studied Kira carefully,
"No, she still has a part to play." He decided, after a long, tense silence.
"Fine," Kelsey responded, turning back to Kira, "before the games began, Nate and I made a plan. He'd somehow discovered my proficiency with weapons and invited me to an alliance. His plan was simple; he arranged for Oscar, the Vice President of his company, to send a vial of experimental regeneration serum as a gift to a contender. Nate figured that Vinny would be the easiest to convince and had Oscar send it to him. Then, once the games started, Nate instructed me to die so I could be saved for the end, like a secret weapon. Once some of the lesser contenders died out, he would revive me and I could unleash my skills on the remainder of the enemies." Kira nodded, concealing how impressed she was with this brilliant ploy.
"Well, in that case," she said, turning towards Nate, "we should really start tracking the other contenders." Nate nodded.
"Let's start with Zeth." He said, "he shouldn't be difficult to find."Kira couldn't sleep. She, Nate, and Kelsey had made camp in the rocky area where she first met Nate and Vinny. She tossed and turned in her sleeping bag, unable to forget what she had done. She had made a deal with the devil. The events were forever seared into her mind. The anguish and hopelessness at finding Nate had abandoned her. The stark terror when she turned to face Zeth. Her despair as she chalked her self up with the dead. Her surprise when Zeth didn't kill her. Then, his demands.
"You Kira, will be my spy." He had said, after battering her sufficiently with his fists. She was doubled over and gasping for breath, she remembered the pain most vividly. "You will inform me of Nate's plans, and you will leave an obvious trail for me to follow. You will do these things or I will kill you, now or later, it will happen." Kira nodded, unable to do much else. And so, it was. Kira was spared, but Zeth was watching. They had met once after this. Kira informed Zeth of the serum, and the glove. Zeth told her to be sure that Nate didn't get any more advantages. She had failed him. Nate had his advantage and Zeth had a reason to kill his spy. Great. Kira went cold and began to sweat as she heard a distinctive whistling pattern. That was her signal to meet with Zeth. She strapped her sword to her hip and pulled her trench coat and boots on. Well, she thought, at least I'll go down fighting.
