BETTER THAN I CAN EVER HOPE FOR IN MY ENTIRE LIFE Book Four

Edward and Rose get into an argument

 We were in a field all of a sudden. I gas the truck and spun it to a stop. I reached for the gun and went to open the door. "Bella what do you think you're doing? Please think of Julie and Thomas now." I looked up at Rose who had tears coming down her eyes then I looked down at Julie. I signed. I am but I need to get into the back of my truck our phones are dead.

 She nodded. I got out and ran to the back of the truck. I open up the tail gate and climbed in. I felt around. Please be here damn it. I felt around around until I felt my bag. I smiled and unzipped the bag and grabbed what I was looking for. I got back out of the back of the truck and as I slammed the tailgate shut I felt pain in my arm. I gritted my teeth knowing I got hit.

I turned and noticed they got behind us. I set the walkie on the cover and I raised the gun and aimed for the headlight. I shot and hit my mark. One of the headlight was out. I knew which way I was going to take now and it was darker. I grabbed the walkie and jumped back into the truck. "What's that?" Rose asked me. Once I got it on and smiled that Edward had charged it I typed in it. "It's my special walkie that Phillips had made for me. Now if Edward remembers that I have it."

"That's so cool! Bella your arm." I looked up at her and type.

"Don't worry about me just keep trying to reach Edward on this and hang on. I'll set it up to regular walkie and the walkies that are on at home maybe at home will pick it up." I quickly set it up and handed it to Rose. I tapped Rose and signed. Don't tell him I got shot please.

She just nodded. I gently kissed the top of Julie's head and took off.

                                  Epov

I was finally able to get Thomas done for the night. I put him in the guest room and lit the fireplace up in there for him. I walked back out and Emmett sitting up on the stool next to the counter with his face buried in his hands. I make me another cup of coffee.

"How are you not a total wreck Edward?" I quirk an eyebrow. "Excuse me!" I turn around and walk over to where he his and take a sip of my coffee. "How can you be so calm when Bella and Julie are out there in this storm with assholes following them and the last we knew they were being shot at. I know I'm going out of my mind not knowing if Rose is alright or not."

"Do you know that little boy I spent half the day calming done and finally just got him to sleep?" I asked. "Thomas yeah, what does that got to do with anything Edward?" He asked. "It's got to do with everything Emmett. I have to be strong for him. Even though Bella and I are not his blood parents, he is everything to me. If I can't be his main focus and be strong for him then who going to be there for him because right now he scared to death for his mother, sister and his aunty. Yeah I'm scared as hell on the inside and if it wasn't for that little boy in there I probably be out there on those roads that I don't know risking our lives in this weather for what Emmett?"

 He looked up at me. "You're right Edward. I'm sorry! I'm just going out of my mind worried about my Rosie and my baby sister. Plus Julie like a daughter to me and I don't want nothing to happen to her." For the first time I saw tears fall from my best friends eyes.

I walked around the Island and hugged my best friend. "It's alright dude. I never knew you thought of Julie like that."

Just then we could hear static. Emmett pulled away and turned towards the fireplace. "Isn't that the walkie?" He asked. I looked at the mantle and my walkie was on top of the mantle on the charger. But it was off. But we had other ones that sat on the mantel always on.

 I walked up and picked it up. All it was static but confused me. Then I thought how Bella's walkie would only do static through normal walkies if she tried to contact someone. Hers only works with forest service walkies.
