T/W- self harm (cutting and major character death from suicide)
// so basically Valentine's Day was a long time ago oopsss-----------
It was mid February, almost Valentine's Day. Mitch and Scott's school had a Valentine's dance coming up and Scott had recently asked Mitch to go with him.
Scott had found out about Mitch's self harm addiction. He helped Mitch and if he ever noticed Mitch wearing long sleeves, he would tell the brunette to show him his arms. If they were clean, despite previous scars, then everything would be okay.
~
The day of the dance felt like it came too soon. It was today and Mitch couldn't be more nervous. It wasn't the fact that they would be the school's most popular couple at the dance, no. It was because Mitch was scared of slow dancing. Yes, he would love to dance with Scott. He just didn't know how.
Scott didn't exactly know how to either, but Mitch wasn't aware of this.
They both entered the school gym and were immediately overwhelmed by the disgusting smell. My House by Flo Rida was being played, so they decided to hit the dance floor. As soon as they got where they wanted to be, they realized a slow song was playing.
Photograph by Ed Sheeran was the song, to be exact.
Scott looked at Mitch and Mitch looked at Scott. Scott made the first move and held out his hand. Mitch took it and followed Scott.
Scott took Mitch's hands and placed them on his shoulders. Mitch felt Scott place his hands on his waist.
They stared into each other's eyes the entire song. No words were spoken between the two of them. Just the sight of love. Only enjoying their first dance.
To Mitch and Scott, it seemed that the song ended so suddenly, and too soon.
Mitch realized that he had nothing to be afraid of anymore and nothing bad was going to happen.
Well, that's what he thought.

An hour passed, a few slow songs were played, and nothing else happened.
They heard Halo by Queen B start to play and headed straight towards the dance floor. Halfway through the song was when their day was ruined.
A homophobic boy passed by the couple that was so in love they didn't even notice he was there.
"Hey, get a fucking room, you pricks! God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve!" shouted the boy.
"You need to Adam and leave," Scott yelled.
"Can you bring your homophobic ass someplace else?!" Mitch said.
"At least I don't fucking cut myself, twat. Look, roll up your sleeves."
Mitch didn't reply. He couldn't.
"See! You can't because you just cut! I saw you in the bathroom earlier this evening," Austin said.
"Mitch?" Scott looked down at him.
By now, the entire school was listening.
Mitch looked around at everyone who was surrounding him, Scott, and Austin.
He ran out of the school gym and to the sidewalk. The road was busy at this time of night.
Scott followed closely behind and grabbed Mitch's hand.
"Mitch, please don't do it. I know exactly what you're doing, so don't."
"Scott, please let me. This could be my last chance to die. Please!"
"No, Mitch, I'm not just going to stand here and let you die!" Scott said shakily.
Austin took Scott's shoulders and pulled him back. This caused Scott to let go of Mitch's hand. Mitch took a step forward, kissed Scott, and took three steps back.
"I'm sorry, Scott."
He pivoted and ran into the busy road.
