Anaya's excited screams filled the empty air as the rushing wind ruffled her feathery coal-coloured hair.
     "Kanny! C'mon hurry up!"
Her mute girlfriend sat with lonely legs dangling over the steep cliff edge. She looked down as nimble claws ran through hair of a light brown. She was either singing or mumbling, Anaya guessed singing since Kanny admired the normal human music.
     "Kanny?"
Angling her wings, she was able to land behind her girlfriend with little to no dust being kicked up. She kneeled to easily wrap her feathered arms around the other's waist snuggly as she rested her head on Kanny's left shoulder.
"Why won't you speak to me?"
More incoherent mumbles. One sentence, however, was barely audible.
     "There's nothing to converse about."
"Of course there is." Anaya replied in an equally silent manner. "We can talk about the birds and the trees, and- oh! We can talk about the pretty lake near Karmine trail 'cause I know you love it so much."
Another weak answer. "I do like Karmine lake..."
"Great! Then let's talk about it!" A shake of Kanny's head said otherwise.
"No, I don't want to. Too boring."
     "Hey, Kan?"
     "Yes?"
"What was your favorite flower again?"
     "Pink Rosmarinus."
Anaya nodded and sluggishly stood up."I'll be back in about an hour, don't go anywhere."
"Alright." Leaning down, she kissed Kanny's head sweetly. She ran off the cliff and spread her arms, swiftly catching a breeze to lead her to the monstrous sized bushels of rosemary near Karmine lake.
When she landed, she almost instantly began to pick strands of the bright pink flower. The bushels formed a pine scent that surrounded her and brought her such euphoric and nostalgic memories.
They sat under the gargantuan tree and giggled, carefree and the happiest they'll ever be.
"Hey Kan-Kan?" Anaya would ask to capture her friend's attention.
"Don't call me that!" She shoved the other and Anaya laughed even harder.
     "Kanny?"
     "What?"
"I love you, and you'll always be my best friend you wonderful piece of filth."
"I guess I'll be your best friend forever if you really want me to."

For the next six hours they remained there. That was the day Kanny taught her how to make flower crowns.

Anaya finished picking enough rosemary to make the both of them lots of flower jewelry and decided to sit beneath a pine tree that looked oh-so familiar.
     "And...You're finished!"
     "That's it?"
"Yeah!" Anaya gazed down at the sloppily made crown before sliding it onto Kanny's head.
     "It looks beautiful on you!"
She hid her red face behind shielding hands. "Stop lying!"
"I'm not! You look really pretty, pink suits you a lot. You look like...like a princess!"
Removing her hands revealed a strong look of disbelief. "Really?"
     "I'm sure of it."
"Well, you look pretty too. You look like a model!" Anaya crawled around the tree to dig for a hidden glass shard.
     "What are you doing, Anaya?"
"Just you wait!" She grabbed it firmly, albeit careful to not cut her palm. She shaded the words she carved to keep secret from her best friend. "Done!"
She moved to the side to let Kanny see what she wrote.

"Kanny is my gorgeous princess
06-14"

"Give me that, you sap." She ripped the shard from Anaya's hand to whittle at the bark herself. Finishing five minutes later she showed her soulmate her shaped statement as well in much neater writing.

"And Anaya's my knight in shining armor
06-14"

     "You're the best."
"So are you." They fell asleep adorned in the flower jewelry they had made for each other that day.
Anaya's eyes widen when she finished the memory, noticed tears plopped onto the weaved stems as she sniffled. Using the end of her scarlet scarf to wipe away dejected droplets.
When she flew back, Kanny was no longer on the cliff edge but instead was in the cave they called home. She was sprawled out on their worn out leather sofa, her breathing was even and peaceful. "Kan?"
Faint rustling of the thin blanket indicated she was well aware of Anaya's presence.
With a hopeful grin, she sat down near the edge of the couch.
     "Guess what I made."
     "What?"
She stood up, and placed the pink flower crown on Kanny's head. "Let me see your hand, Kan." Speechless, she complied as Anaya slipped on two rosemary bracelets, and a fiddled with stem that resembled a misshapen ring on her ring finger.
     "Pink suits you well, Kan-Kan."
Teardrops lit up melancholic eyes as she leaped into her soulmate's arms. Kanny's tear-choked response had her heart soaring.
"You're my knight in shining armor, Anaya."

A/N: I rather enjoyed writing this one shot and the bittersweetness behind it. I'll be taking this current snow day to catch up on a few of my unfinished drafts. The next one shot I write might be a poem, because there is so many possible choices I could use for the next monster. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this one shot! :D
