•This chapter will alternate between the POV of Brianne and Deshawn.•

"Brooklyn," I yawned as I entered our suite. She didn't respond but I heard singing coming from the bathroom. She must've just got out the shower, I though to myself. Then it occurred to me that she was 'sick' there was no way her voice sounded so normal when she claimed to have allergy problems. That little liar. "Brooklyn..." I growled. She immediately stopped singing at the sound of my voice. It took her a while to answer. "Uh.. I'm coming out in a sec just hold on..." She croaked. I took a deep breath and sat on the couch. I contemplated on whether to choke her first or to ask her why in the hell did she lie to me. I heard the sound of shuffled footsteps coming from the hall. She peeped her head around the corner and let out a small innocent smile. "Hey Bri," she greeted with a pang of worry in her voice. "Don't hey Bri me." I scolded. She frowned,"You want some of my famous queso quesodillas?" She asked coming to sit next to me on the couch. I guess she tried to use the queso quesodillas as a way to smooth things over. "No I want to know why you faked being sick?" I asked with my arms crossed. "Well how did the auction turn out?" She asked. "Don't try to change the subject!" I warned. Brooklyn sighed,"I'm asking this question because of the subject!" "Well if you must know, it went good. I surprisingly raised the most money. It was 300 dollars." I answered. "Uh huh well congrats on that," she applauded," but who bought you?" I paused for a second. I started to think she already knew the answer to this question. "Deshawn," I murmured. She began to shake me by my shoulders and scream. "You see that right there is why I did it yo! You scored a date with D like you always wanted. For goodness sakes Bri don't ever say I've never did anything for your ungrateful ass." "Did you ask him to buy me?" Brooklyn looked confused," No. I mean I know I lied to you today, but you pulled that fine motherfucker all on your own." I let out a sense of relief. Maybe it wasn't a joke or dream then. I guess it was finally hitting me that the fact I'm going out with my crush sometime this week on an actual date that he paid 300 dollars for me to go on. Brooklyn nudged me," I think I'm more excited for you than you are for yourself." I smirked and shook my head," I'm just curious. I have a lot of questions for him like why? Then on top of that I'm nervous about if he doesn't end up liking me like that or..." "Hush child," Brooklyn said holding her finger up," Don't you ever just let things be and think.... Oh, I don't know positively! You over think things way to much." "No I don't!" Brooklyn gave me the look again," Just sleep on it."

•Deshawn's POV•

Text from: Ash
Time: 12:07 p.m.
Message: U like 2 play games huh!?

I rolled my eyes as I laid down in my bed watching Tom and Jerry reruns. I had a feeling sooner or later I was going to hear from Ashleigh about what went down tonight. Ashleigh was my ex and we weren't on good nor bad terms after I broke up with her. It just didn't work being with her and everybody around me knew it. I knew she still had feelings for me still and I guess you could say I still thought about her.

I left the text on read. I didn't see the point in continuing that conversation. I plugged my phone back on the charger and tried to watch the tv show, but the question Ashleigh asked me stayed on my mind. Why did I choose Brianne over her? Everybody on campus knew I had a history with Ash and out of all the girls up on that stage they expected me to chose her no matter what. But no. If I did that would make Ashleigh think I wanted her back...and I didn't. I didn't want to have any more added drama to my life more than what I had already had. So when I saw Brianne up there I felt like that was who I should spend my money on because the other day she had made me laugh. Even though she was sarcastic and kinda mean I didn't get a bad vibe from her. And I thought it was cute that her jaws were big and her round face too. She wasn't bad to look at from the back either if you know what I mean.
The thing is I hope Ashleigh don't try to sabotage anything for me like she usually did when I became involved with another girl. She took jealous to a whole new level sometimes. I don't need all that extra in my life right now. Not with the basketball season getting closer and closer to ending and scouts coming to recruit me for the big leagues. By Brianne's bio I could tell she was chill and a good girl. Good girls had never really been my type. So I do have my doubts that this date will be worth the money.

Wheeeeeeeww!!! Coach Howard blew his whistle, "Let's go! Round up boys!" The team hustled in and circled around Coach Howard. "Practice is now in motion! So stop the fooling around young bloods. We got work to do. We have a game coming up this week against Michigan State and we must stay focused to keep our 17-1 record." Everybody nodded their head. "Alright let's get in groups of 2 and shoot some lay ups as a warm up. I need to see hustle. I want to know who wants to stop sitting on that cold ass metal bleacher and get some goddamn playing time Thursday night!" We all looked at each other. Not one of us wanted to sit on the bench so I knew everyone was bout to give it their all. "And listen to your captain as we run this drill!" Coach Howard fussed. We had all gotten used to him cussing at us but that was only because he saw us as his own kids with the potential to do right. Even if he had to call practice on a Sunday afternoon. I considered coach as a father to me since mine was never around.
Rakeem patted me on my back at the mention of the word captain. "Alright now let's get to working!" Coach yelled. Everyone moved around to a spot at the top of the arc. The water boy brought out the rack of basketball balls for us to use.
I filed in line last so I could critique my teammates. Rakeem was in front of me standing with his hands over his head. He turned around to face me. "So you taking my girl out huh?" He asked smiling. "Brianne? Yeah I am." "She's really cool people,"He added. "So I've heard, " I nodded," she seems like it to." "I'm not trying to sound like her father or anything but I'd appreciate that when you take her out you'd respect her and not be on that hoe shit." Rakeem told me. I raised my eyebrow," Hoe shit?" Rakeem nodded," We both know how you are with the ladies man. You kinda...a heart breaker and I swear if she come up to me in tears about some bullshit you caused her, I don't mean no harm, but I'mma beat yo ass." I was a bit surprised that he said that considering me and him were cool with each other, but I also knew where he was coming from. Afterall, I had a little sister and if I ever caught her in her feelings over some no good dude then I would be ready to 'float like a butterfly, sting like a bee' on somebody too. "You got my word bro," I laughed hitting him on the back," Your little shorty going
be fine." "Good," Rakeem said catching the ball the water boy threw at him in his hands. He began to dribble his way towards the basket to make a lay up and soon I followed.
