I cried for so long after I left that stupid 'date' I couldn't believe my body could hold so many tears. And it was at this point I felt most like Rek'Sai. I wanted to burrow underground.. where I was safe.. where I was Queen.
The Slave Quarters which were provided for me and Steph was an ordinary small room with bunk beds, and a lamp, with very few places to keep any belongings.. I cried into my pillow for a while, before I realized there were a set of gentle hands pulling me from the bed, and then embracing me.
Stephanie smiled as she held me. "You act so strong.. but even you have to let it out some time..don't you?"
I nodded, and I buried my face in Steph's chest. She was warm, so kind. And though I couldn't remember her.. she felt so familiar.
"Hey.." a knock on our door sounded off and Selk's voice came through. "We've got an hour left.. your combat clothes are under your beds.. get them and go to the fitting room.
"Hey.." said Stephanie, holding my head so that I gazed directly at her.. that girl who looked like a reflection of me. "Whatever happens.. I will always look after you.. I'm never going to lose you again.. got it?"
"Yeah.." I said. "Thanks..
The fitters as it turned out.. were actually higher then us in the entire servant food chain, just ordinary paid servants, not complete slaves like us, so they didn't hold back on taunting or embarrassing us. They had us in separate fitting rooms.. and first they stripped off my clothes, and said "Oh look! The Mighty Rek'Sai is embarrassed!" Then they said even ruder stuff that not even I'd repeat.. after that, they finally fit me into a leather shorts, a padded sleeveless top, and fitted armored boots and gauntlets onto my legs and forearms.
They then gave me a sword, which I refused. I wasn't a sword kind of girl.. I mean, I like Sword Art Online, but I'd rather not have a sword in my hand... not after that one disaster with the Master Sword replica at the gaming convention in Akihabara... I did NOT think Liam Neeson could have a blade stuck THAT deep into his foot..
Everyone met outside in the dead of night at the courtyard out front, where we were briefed on the mission at hand.
"A village nearby has been dealing with Norsonian Raids for 2 weeks now." said Esgar. "It's been getting more and more out of hand lately.. so.. we're going to deal with them.. tonight.. wipe out every last one.. leave no survivors.."
I glared at Esgar uneasily.
"What's the matter beautiful?" said Avair. "Never killed anybody before?"
"Not really.." I said. "And I'd rather not have to.."
"Those big claws of yours, it'll be a wonder you don't kill anybody by accident at least." said Selk calmly. "Grow a backbone and learn, or you'll never make it 2 seconds with us."
"Alright, let's go, we've got a carriage waiting out front, and with that, it'll only take a few hours to get to the edge of the village." said Esgar.
As soon as we got to the village, it was already in the process of being raided.
All the men and women in the village had been gathered in the middle of the area.. their hands on their heads, many of them crying as guards stood around them.. holding up their large Norsonian Battle Axes.
Meanwhile, many soldiers raided the rest of the village.
I gritted my teeth.. I hated it when weaker people were bullied.. Hell with the fact I was being forced to do this... I would happily kill these guys.. I think..
