I awoke again in the morning as I usually did now.. early, and ready to clean...

I hated that.. I mean, yes, things had gotten better around here since I had less people scowling at me and Steph.  And.. I guess I did grow to like Avair and Jon.. even if Selk was still being rather untrusting of us..

But.. I was still a slave.. I still worked at the pleasure of my masters.. and already I had narrowly avoided very scary situations.

At one point, one of the court nobles, who was tired of his wife had begun to move in on me.. and of course, I wouldn't be able to say no.. I was a slave.. I HAD to do it.. even if I didn't want to..

Luckily, I was saved by Avair who happened to be coming back from the barracks.

And that wasn't the only instance.. truth was.. if you're starting to get this idea in your brain that this place has become some sort of new happy home for me.. brush it out right now... the last chapter only explained the good parts.. the bad parts weren't even touched on..

Because even if we're not feared as Summoners anymore, we're still treated like mud because we're slaves. Me and Steph have bruises on our bodies from beatings the King would order on us because we didn't get his food right.. or we didn't clean in a precise way... I have whip scars on my back..

That's the one guy who never warmed up to us.. the one guy who absolutely refused the LOL replicas that Esgar had been passing around.. his father the king..

He didn't just mistrust us.. he downright hated us.  And after the LOL games were introduced.. he only got harsher..

Now every night, I would sit up in bed as Steph tearfully soaked my back with soothing oil, trying to help me with the fresh wounds I had gotten that day, from having the whip cracked on me.

"We need to get out of here." Stephanie whispered on our latest night. "We have to.."

I groaned as Steph ran the wet cloth down my back, and the oil trickled down. "I.. know. W-we need to.. well.. urgh. Let's not wait anymore.. let's do it tonight.. during the mission."

Steph's eyes widened. "T-tonight!?"

"No better time right?" I pulled a brick out of the wall and pulled out the roll of parchment that when unrolled, displayed a diagram of the collars we were fitted with. "Look at this.. we've been studying these for over a month now.. it's gotta work.."

These collars.. whether operated by magic or not, used magic as a power source only.. the rest of it was pure mechanics, and if there was one thing I knew from a life of hacking my way through the world.. it was how to break down something into the exact components I needed. There was no way this thing could hold me forever.. I had what I needed.. it was time..

I hugged Stephanie. "Tonight.. we're going back to Summoner's village.. I promise."

****From Esgar's Eyes****

"FATHER!! WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS!?" Esgar burst into the throne room, furious beyond belief. "Is this what you call the will of a merciful king!?"

King Prow looked up, blinking a bit before holding up his hands. "Now.. son.. I know not of what you speak."

"I've seen the scars on her back!!" Esgar roared. "These beatings every night for the most ridiculous reasons!!"

Prow sighed. "My dear boy.. she is a monster.. you must see that.. I've.. read this.. Lore section of your so called game. A queen of creatures called the Xer'Sai.. a vicious beast that razed the desserts of Shurima!"
