"So let me get this straight. You are the ones who intend to drive out those barbaric Norsonians!?"
We were in a large well decorated room. There was plush red carpet and long golden tapestries everywhere, as well as suits of armor, roaring fireplaces, bookshelves laden with books, and couches.
The mayor, and also Nir's father, was a big looking guy which I figured would have made Fat Albert look like supermodel. He had a gruff beard and a rather skittish look about him. I wasn't suprised that this prosperous town was getting so easily ravaged by Norsonians. This guy looked like if his city was under siege, he'd be the one to run off and do nothing rather then stay behind and ensure order. His bathrobe and slippers pretty much had 'scared couch potatoe' written all over it.
"I assure you sir." Dave said in his usual deep calming voice. "We're quite skillled at what we do. I'm an excelent fighter, and Akemi here is a bowmaster."
"What of those two?" the mayor asked, pointing at me and Ronald.
"Ronald is an ex assassin, and Miyoko here is quite adept at being aware of her surroundings, so we took her under our tutolage. We only ask for the offered payment in return for our services."
"Hmm.. I suppose I can let you have it.. if you get the job done.." said the mayor. "And well, you did save my daughter."
"Excuse me." I said. "You seem pretty well off in all of this.. why does Nir have to wear rags?"
Akemi and Dave both shot me a warning glance.
"S-sorry about that sir!" said Akemi quickly. "She's actually new to these parts and is unaware of many of this land's customs."
"I bear no resentment for her question." said the mayor. "y-you see.. I just don't have the room or resources to support her right now.."
At that moment, I completely snapped. "YOU WHAT!?"
"Miyoko!" said Akemi
"Whoah! She's had some red meat." said Ronald.
"YOU HAVE SO MUCH ROOM IN HERE!!! YOU'RE WEARING A PLUSHY BATHROBE!!! AND YOU'RE TELLING ME YOU DON'T HAVE THE RESOURCES TO SUPPORT ONE LITTLE GIRL!?" I roared. "WHY!? Is is because you don't want her!? Is that it!? Is she not good enough for you!? Are you just going to leave her on the side of the street!? Cause I know a little something about abandonment, and trust me, she WON'T forgive you!!!"
"Miyoko enough!!!" Akemi grabbed my arm.. it was at that moment, I had noticed the markings glowing on my arms. It wasn't until now that I'd realized the glowing markings were drawn like tattoo shapes of Rek'Sai's claws..
The markings faded as fast as they had come, and the mayor backed away from me in fear. "You need to restrain you pupil dear mercenaries. She is dangerous!"
"Yes she is.. but I assure you, all her ferocity will be dealt at the Norsonians." said Akemi. "Now.. if you need us, we'll be staying at the local inn."
"Yes... of course. But be sure to cover your own expenses.. sleeping quarters were not part of any of the agreements." said the Mayor. "Now.. please, I have a meeting at six.. so.. leave now..my greatest apologies"
As we left Town Hall, I couldn't help clenching my fists in anger. "That no good bastard of a-"
"Miyoko!" said Akemi. "Calm down. I get how you feel, you never knew your parents.. and I agree with you on the father ethics of this man, but that isn't the priority here."
"I have to admit though." said Dave. "I'd like to see what Warwick thinks of how this spineless coward tastes.. I get he has to look after an entire town.. but to neglect his daughter like that.."
