As I was walking in the woods, I heard voices so I stopped and turned around to see if anyone was near me. There wasn't one person in sight. I turned back around and continued walking when I heard the voices again. I quicken my pace and when I heard them get louder, I started running. I jumped over small logs, dodged some trees, and tried to move faster.
When I saw the cabin in sight, I slowed my pace and put my hand over my chest. I tried slowing my breath before walking inside. I opened the door and went straight to the room that Chase and I are living. I opened the door and walked in to see Chase doing his homework. I was surprised he wasn't talking to his brother. I closed the door behind me and sat down next to Chase.
"What did you do while I was gone?" I asked and slowly took off my hoodie.
"Homework," he muttered. I got up from the bed and started to walk across the room when I heard a voice.
'I can smell your blood, Eddie.'
I freeze and looked around. How could this be? I thought I killed him. How could he be in my head? Mutts can't communicate after they have been killed. How could he?
'I feel the confusion from you. Go inside the bathroom.'
"Why would I listen to you, mutt?" I yelled at the ceiling.
"Who are you talking to?" I heard Chase asked. I turned around and saw his eyes with bags under them. Chase would usually be the time to sleep all the time. What's wrong with him?
"Have you been sleeping, Chase?" I asked.
He nodded his head and I glared at him. "Tell me the truth."
He sighed and slammed his homework on the bed and got up. "Kris hasn’t called and I heard yelling from the phone. Do you-"
"No, of course not. Don't think like that, Chase," I said and pulled him into a hug. He sniffled and put his head on the crook of my neck.
"Thanks man," he mumbled.
'You can be perfect unlike Chase.'
I closed my eyes and tried to block out the man's voice.
"No problem, man." I mumbled back. I pulled back, patting his back hard and gave him a small smile. "Hey, do you have the teacher's email address? The one who talks about mythical creatures?"
Chase raised an eyebrow and chuckled. "You mean, Mr. Naz? I don't understand how he's been your teacher since the beginning of school and you don't know his name. And they aren't mythical creatures anymore."
I chuckled and pushed his shoulders. "Mr. Naz isn't important to me, and those freaks are myths. They don't belong here."
Chase frowned. "They're freaks now?"
I chuckled again. "Their freaks since they were born."
Chase shook his head and dug in his book bag. He gave me a small piece of paper and I smiled. I quickly walked to our small desk and turned on the laptop. I logged into my email and sent Mr. Naz a message asking him about the quote he said hours ago.
'I'll keep fighting on till the pain fills the air.
Pray for, pray for me
I must, must be dreaming.'
I stopped typing for a second and let out a deep sigh. This voice is really getting on my nerves. I clicked send and kept refreshing the page to see if he replied back. There was a ding and I clicked on my new mail. I read it and shut the laptop angrily. I got up and started pacing back and forth.
'You smell good.'
I gripped my hair and walked into the bathroom. I knew I shouldn't be here when the voice told me to come but I really needed to find my pill. I opened the medicine cabinet and grabbed the pill, popping it in my mouth. I turned on the sink faucets and splashed some water on my face and inside my mouth so I could swallow the pill. I walked out of the bathroom and walked downstairs. I heard the pack talking but they stopped when I entered. I ignored them and walked straight to the fridge. I was shocked to find juice and fruits inside.
'Slit their throats like you did to mine.'
I slammed the fridge door and went back upstairs. I felt a little unsure to be around them or Chase. I wanted them dead but at the same time I didn't. I went back into the bathroom and felt a whole weight being lifted away from me. I opened the medicine cabinet again and when I closed it, there were a pair of red eyes behind me. My eyes widen and I felt hands on my shoulders. There was a cold breath on my ear and it whispered,
"I'll carve the fear on your face
For everyone to see."
I screamed and pulled away from his grip. I turned off the bathroom light while running and jumped on the bed, next to Chase. I shut my eyes tight and tried falling asleep but its eyes were printed in my mind. I felt an arm go around my waist and my breathing started to become quick.
"You're trembling," he stated. I opened my eyes and Chase had his eyes closed still and a small frown on his face.
"S-sorry," I said quietly.
"What's wrong?" He opened his eyes a little and I gave him a fake smile.
"I'm fine."
"Stop lying, Eddie. No one would help you if you lie."
"I'm not lying."
He sighed slowly and mumbled an okay. I was still trembling yet I was calming down, too.
"Don't cry or you'll know what happens." Chase muttered.
I smiled, a real smile, because Chase said the same thing I said when he was crying. I didn't realize I was crying. It must be from the red eyes or everything just happened so fast.
"You cry with me," I chocked out..
"Mhmm. Now go to sleep, Eddie."
I closed my eyes once again and this time I felt myself falling into the darkness. Chase's eyes pulled me closer and my heart was going slower. Then I felt a hand on my throat but I couldn't move when sleep finally took me.
'You're so pretty in a body bag.
You're so pretty in a body bag.'
