I opened the door and walked in the kitchen to get something to drink when something made me stop in my tracks. They turned their heads and he gave me a smile.
"Hey boy," he said.
I raised an eyebrow and said slowly, "Hi dad. What are you doing here?"
"You’re not glad to see your dad?" His voice sounded hurt.
"Oh no, I'm glad! I'm just wondering. How's mom?"
"She's doing fine, but a little worried since you haven't called her." I nodded. I knew my mom was going to worry about me when I told her I'm with Chase. Chase is like her second son. "I'll call her today. What are you doing here?" My dad looked back at Vincent and cleared his throat. "I'm here to get you back."
"He can't go. We talked about this, Mr. Cano," Vincent said emotionless.
My dad punched the wall that was near Vincent's face, "Now you listen here, mutt. I'm taking my son no matter what. He's my son."
"He's a property of ours. He's staying here until he comes."
Who is he? And why did he say it like that? My dad took out his dagger and put it on Vincent's throat.
He backed him up on the wall and was going to say something when Vincent smirked. "You haven't told him, have you?"
My dad didn't say anything and I was starting to get confused.
"What is he talking about, dad?" I said and started to walk towards them.
"Don't come over here, boy!" My dad yelled. I stopped and dropped my bag on the ground.
"How awful you are. He wouldn't want to know what he is, right?" Vincent said mockingly.
"Shut up, mutt." My dad sneered.
"And his mom. His sweet mom going through so much pain that she might even die."
"I said shut up!" Vincent grabbed the collar of my dad's shirt and pulled their faces close to each other.
"What about you tell him? What about you tell him about he's means to you and the shit he has to do after you die?!"
My dad pushed him away from him. Vincent landed on the wall and looked up.
"I said shut the hell up!" My dad lifted the dagger up and was going to stab him when I screamed something.
"Daddy, put the dagger down!"
He froze and so did I. I haven't called my dad daddy in a long time. I knew it felt childish to call him daddy when I'm growing up but seeing the anger and the kill in his eyes made me felt like a child again. I haven't seen my dad this mad before. He lowered the dagger and looked at me.
He walked towards me but I backed away. The feeling of being afraid of my dad was a pain in my chest. I wasn't supposed to feel afraid. I'm supposed to feel happiness and excitement because I knew I would be able to kill a mutt. He lowered his eyes and mumbled a sorry boy. He always would do that to me. I heard the front door open and Chase's voice.
"Hey Eddie, I went to your house but-" He stopped and I looked at him.
His face was pure shock and what made things worse was that Serge and Clayton was next to him.
They looked at the scene in front of them and Segre said coolly, "I think you should go, Mr. Cano. And I mean only you."
My dad nodded and walked towards the door. They moved so he can go to the door. "I'm sorry, Eddie. I'll tell your mother that you won't be coming home."
Then I heard the door open and shut. I kept staring at the spot he was.
"Come on, Eddie. Let's take you upstairs and calm you down, okay?" Chase whispered nicely.
I nodded unconsciously, letting Chase pull me upstairs. When we got to our room, Chase sat me down on the bed and Chase started rambling about random things. I knew Chase was trying to get my mind from what happened but I couldn't. For some reason, I felt like defending Vincent instead of my father. My dad always told me to defend my own kind and dirtbags aren't my kind.
I shook my head and said, "Chase, I'm fine."
"No you're not," Chase denied. Chase patted my knee and told me to get up.
"Why?"
Chase rolled his eyes and got up, looking for something in his bag. "Just shut up and get up."
I slowly got up and Chase told me to close my eyes. I closed my eyes and waited for what's going to happen, If Chase was going to attack me; I was going to attack back and probably leave a scar.
"Open your eyes," Chase said.
I opened them and smiled big.
"Dude, I can't believe you got my notebook song. How did you find it?" I asked and flipped through the pages.
"It was the only thing in your room and I knew you haven't been writing so I thought you would like it back. You need to start again." I chuckled and hit the notebook on his head.
"Hey!" He whined. He tried to glare at me but he failed.
I chuckled again and gave him a half hug. "Thanks man."
"No problem, Ed." Chase weakly punched my shoulder and I smiled again.
Chase always knew how to make me happy.
