After hanging out with the band, or now called Scarlett O' Hara, I went back to the cabin to see that it's still 8pm. I rushed upstairs and busted the door open to see Chase on his phone again. I rolled my eyes and took his phone away from him. He groaned and tried snatching his phone back.
When he failed, he groaned again and shouted, "What the hell, Eddie? I'm talking to my brother!"
"Yeah, I know!" I shouted back. "But you need to calm down! He's fine."
He scoffed and leaned his back on the headboard. He mumbled something under his breath but I let it slide this time. I placed his phone on top of my drawer and sat next to him. I knew he was going to sulk about not having his phone with him, but he needed to calm down. He didn't need to worry about anything and just go to school and have a normal life. Maybe that's what I wanted for Chase. A normal life. I looked at him and patted his thigh.
"Come on," I said as I was getting up.
"Where are we going?" I heard the confusion in his voice.
I let a small smirk form on my lips. "We're going on a hunt."
~~~
Chase was complaining about not having any weapons and that we're not supposed to be hunting anything. I wanted to smack him on the back of his head and tell him to shut up. He knew I wasn't going to listen, so why waste your breath? When he finally shut up, I took a few minutes to think. I didn't know what was happening to me.
I knew I wasn't normal, but throwing up black blood and then liking it, wanting it, needing it, is fucking scary. I've never seen black blood before. Hell, I never heard of it. Double hell is, I never heard of a hybrid. My neck snapped to its right when I thought of that. I groaned loudly, and turned my head back, looking at Chase. He raised an eyebrow and wanting to ask me if I was alright but I gave him a sharp look. He put his hands in surrender and kept walking. I saw a red glowing afar and a few red sparks flying in the sky.
"Yo Chase," I whispered.
He looked in the distance and had a blank look on his face. I wasn't sure if I should go and see what's the red glowing or forget about it. It's weird to see red glowing in the middle of the woods. But things got weirder in the past weeks. I skipped a few sticks that were in my way, ducking and moving sticks. I heard footsteps behind me so I knew Chase was following me. I ducked behind a big log and looked over it to see body figures standing. Chase put his hand on my shoulder and I nodded. I tried to keep my breathing low because the figures started moving yet they were moving in a circle. Then they started to speak.
"He said, this would make our lives better." My eyes widen when I heard the voice. No. That can't be him. Why would he be here?
"But she was my wife." Chase gasped and I hastily covered his mouth with my hand. He put his hand over mine and we listened closely.
"She wasn't your wife. More importantly, she was a traitor. She tried to advise her own kind, don't you remember? We don't need...freaks running around this world."
"But Luke-"
"Are you questioning him?"
"N-no Luke but-"
"But nothing. Don't be a traitor or you'll end up like her."
He turned around and pointed at something. I squinted my eyes to see what he was pointing at and I felt my body went numb. My hand slowly dropped from Chase's mouth and I stared at her.
"What is it?" Chase said in a hushed tone. I kept my mouth shut, my eyes popped out of my eyes, my blood turning cold. How could they? How could they do this to their family? "Eddie, you're scaring me. What's going-?"
I looked at Chase and he had his mouth opened, ready to scream. I quickly put my hand over his mouth and tackled him to the floor. He struggled, scream, cried, and did everything that broke my heart. The sound of crunching and cracking made us froze on the spot. Chase was swallowing nervously, I gripped his mouth, telling him to be quiet. I stared into his fearful, sadness eyes. Then silence. We counted to ten and then quickly got up. I dusted myself off and Chase had a leaves in his hair and some dirt on his pants. I knew what he saw was freaky and terrifying and disbursing.
I tugged on his sleeve, pulling him. "It's okay, Chase," I muttered, "think about your happy place."
"What happy place?" Chase snapped.
"You and Kris can be happy. You always wanted to live with your brother."
"You don't get it, Eddie," Chase chuckled darkly.
He was right. I didn't get it. I never knew how it felt to lose someone that I loved. Chase's mom was like a second mom to me. She helped me when my mom wasn't there or was tired from work. Chase's mom was also like a sister to me. She would tell me embarrassing things about Chase when he's around and he would get mad. She was part of my heart. And that part broke.
"We should go back," Chase yelled. "Eddie! We need to go back! We can't leave her there!"
I turned around and grabbed his shoulders. "I'm sorry, Chase. We can't go back. We need to go back to the cabin," I said firmly. In his eyes held deep grief and anger. His emotions were flying everything. I cupped his cheeks. "Chase."
Rolling his eyes, he pushed me away and walked the way to cabin. I looked over my shoulder to see two black figures standing a few inches away from me. I blinked once and they were gone. I shook my head and followed Chase. I flinched when I imagined a person find her hanging on the tree freely. He didn't deserved this.
