Annabeth's POV
I stood there, not knowing what to do. Should I hug her back? This was not how I imagined our reunion would be. She let go, and held on to my face. She stared into my eyes. I saw tears coming down. I stared back, not knowing how to act. I still stood there like a stick.
"I am so happy to see you!" She let go, but still was teary-eyed. I blinked back my tears. I coughed, and looked at Rachel.
"Uh... Mom, this is Rachel, my best-friend. Rachel, this is... my mom," I introduced them. Rachel and Mom shook hands.
"Nice to meet you, Ms. Chase."
"Nice to meet you too, Rachel. Your parents and I are good friends. Please, call me Athena. I've left that last name long ago," She looked towards me with guilt forming on her face. I looked down, suddenly interested with my fingers.
"Okay, Ms. Cha- I mean Athena."
"We better get you home. I'm sure your parents will be pleased." Rachel nodded. We went inside the car, as the driver drove off, giving us a perfect view of NY.
There's definitely more skyscrapers here than in SF. Everything here seems to be more than what SF has. More people, more buildings, more ways to achieve success. Maybe that's why Mom left, to have more than what she already had. She got her long dream...by moving here and leaving us.
After a couple of minutes, we arrived at Rachel's house...more like a mansion. Her front garden had phenomenal landscaping. Roses, tulips, and other flowers grew, making the garden a masterpiece.
"Bye Athena, Annabeth. See you on Monday," She said. I hugged her, and she went out of the car. She carried her luggage towards the front gate, and gave us one last wave, as she went inside.
The rest of the car ride consisted of silence and staring. She looked happy, while I probably looked like a mess. My hair is messy from running my hand through it.
We arrived at her house...a penthouse. We went out of the car, and carried our luggage into the building. A doorman opened the door for us, giving us an amazing view of the inside. In the middle of the room, was a crystal chandelier. It was a circular-shaped lobby. When you looked above and past the chandelier, you saw detailed ceiling paintings.
"Welcome, Athena." The doorman said. He nodded and smiled at me.
"Thank you, John," My mom nodded, and headed straight towards the elevator. We rode in silence. Every few seconds, she looked at me as if she has something to say, but she dropped them. The elevator led straight to the room. It was a big living room. To the left was a big staircase. Everything else looked neat and modern, like what you would see in a tv show.
"Hope you feel comfortable in our house," she said. She helped me with my bags. "I'll show you your room." She went up the stairs, and made a right turn. She opened the door. We walked in, and I was overwhelmed at how big it is. A piano and three different guitars were displayed. There was also a white desk that had cork boards and blueprints. "Your dad told me how much you love architecture and music," she smiled at me.
"Thank you..." I said, not knowing what else to say. She nodded and smiled back.
"I'll leave you here alone, for now, to settle in. I know you must be tired, you can sleep. You can join me if you want. I'll be in my office, across the hall." She walked out of the room, leaving silence. I settled in, arranging my clothes to the closet. A walk-in-closet. This room is twice the size of my room back in SF. This place is too big. How do I get used to this?!
