I stared at the snowflake, words refusing to come out of my mouth. I began to shake, unsure of what to do. As my shaking worsened, the snowflake fell to the ground, melting into the soil. I collapsed onto my knees, frustrated with myself. "I'm so...so... Urgh!" I muttered angrily to myself. I closed my eyes, a tear rolling down my cheek. I finally learned magic, but I don't even know what kind of magic I learned! The worst part is that I don't even know how to use it!

"Calm down. You'll never know how to control your power like this." Chiyoko advised. "I'm going to teach you a few other types of magic. Stand up and we can begin." She smiled. I rose to my feet, wiping the tear off of my cheek. Chiyoko held her hand out to me. I took her hand. I closed my eyes for a moment. When I opened my eyes, we were in the trees again. "Step number three: Learn your advantages." She said calmly.

"You will learn all of your magic in this one day. You will spend the rest of your life developing it." She stated. I nodded. Chiyoko placed her hand on my forehead, transferring a strange magical power into my mind. "Now, close your eyes and imagine anywhere you would like to go in the forest." I closed my eyes, imagining the rock where I had met Chiyoko not long ago. I concentrated as hard as I could, my head swelling in pain. I collapsed to the ground, my eyes still closed. I concentrated even harder, my body flat against the ground. All of a sudden, I couldn't hear the movements of Chiyoko or Hana anywhere. I listened for my breath. Nothing. I listened for my heartbeat. Nothing. I tried to scream, but nothing came out. I desperately struggled to open my eyes, but the only thing I could see was darkness. I tried feeling around for any sort of object, but it seemed like I was trapped in an endless darkness. I concentrated as hard as I could to leave, but nothing happened.

Suddenly, black, gray, and white snowflakes swarmed over me. I tried to push through the snowflakes. As I reached out my hand into the swarming snowflakes, I felt instant pain. Blood spilled everywhere, coating the snowflakes in red. I screamed out in pain, but my scream was inaudible. I forced my way into the swarming storm of snowflakes, each one quickly cutting into my skin. Drops of blood flew everywhere, coating each and every new snowflake that appeared. I screamed out in pain once more, and again my scream was inaudible. I plunged my scraped body into the storm, unsure if I would actually get out alive. I collapsed inside the rushing current of snowflakes, each and every single snowflake cutting aggressively into my skin. I reached out my bloody arm further into the swarm, dragging the rest of my body along with it. Blood splashed everywhere. The ground, the snowflakes, and even beyond the storm of snowflakes. As I crawled out of the swarm of snowflakes, I examined my body. It appeared as if I had been sliced and diced like a tomato, only with blood spatter all over my body and the remains of my clothes. I curled into a ball weakly, trying to shield my nakedness. I closed my eyes and waited.

When I opened my eyes, I was next to a large rock. I looked around, the leaves of trees glistening around me. I breathed a small sigh of relief. I looked down at my arms. Still... blood.. I laid my head down onto the ground, my vision going black.

"Sayuri! Sayuri, please speak to me! Open your eyes! Just do something to let us know that you're alive!" I heard Hana screech desperately. "Perhaps the training was too much.. Oh, what was I thinking? How could I have done this to a small, fragile little girl! Because of me, she will be burdened her entire life..." Chiyoko sniffled. "Sayuri... I'm so sorry... I didn't mean to do this to you, I swear. Oh, who am I kidding? I'm cursed. A foolish, evil, cursed little spirit. I've been unfair to you, and to Hana..." She stammered. "Sayuri... Please... I was supposed to protect you! Don't die on me, aye!" Hana sniffled. "H-Hana..?" I squeaked, my voice softer than a whisper. "Sayuri! Oh, Sayuri! Thank goodness you're alright! Chiyoko healed your wounds, but you might have a scar or two. You should rest some more. Just lay down for a bit longer and rest up." Hana sighed in relief. "Oh, Sayuri! I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have put you through that... I didn't know that teleportation is different for everyone... When I first learned it, I did go through some pain, but it was much less severe than yours. I had no idea that the in-between world could do that to someone... Speaking of what happened, what actually attacked you?" Chiyoko asked. "Well, um, it was quite strange, really. A swarm of black, white, and gray snowflakes attacked me. It seemed as if I were the center of a tornado, almost. When I tried to leave, each and every snowflake would cut through my skin. The strangest part was that the snowflakes seemed to be made of iron, or some other type of metal. They looked kind of like the snowflake I made earlier.." I huffed. "Hmm... I see. When I first learned teleportation magic, I was trapped in a circle of magic cards. Like you, when I tried to escape, they attacked me. I eventually made it out, but I came out with deep wounds. At the time, I had only just learned card magic a few years prior." Chiyoko told me. "But.. Why would my own magic attack me?" I stuttered. "The in-between world is the world between the place where you are currently and the place you want to teleport to. Every wizard sees it differently, but yours is particularly violent." She replied.

"Mrrow. It's getting late. I just want a fish and then sleep!" Hana yawned. "Alright. Sadly, I don't have anywhere for you to stay.." Chiyoko sighed. "Oh, it's fine. I know some place we can stay, Hana!" I said cheerfully. "Aye...!" Hana yawned. "Here, take these. There's food, water, and a change of clothes inside for both of you." Chiyoko handed me two bags, one larger bag for myself and a smaller bag for Hana. I handed the smaller bag to Hana, who tossed it over her shoulder. "Thank you, Chiyoko!" I gave her a quick hug. "Anytime you want to return to the forest, which you must for your training, hold this snowflake in the palm of your hand and close your eyes. Of course, Hana gets one, too. They never melt, so don't worry! Also, make sure you get treatment for your wounds if they open again. My healing powers aren't as strong as they used to be, so be careful." Chiyoko advised. I nodded, taking the snowflake from her hand. Hana took hers and tucked it into her bag. "Stay safe!" Chiyoko called after us. "We will!" Hana and I called out back to her. I ran out of the forest, Hana flying closely behind me.

"Will you be able to run like that?" Hana asked. "Oh, I'll be fine. I don't know exactly why, but for some reason, after I was attacked, I had never felt so alive." I smiled. "Well, I like your new confidence! Aye!" Hana said cheerfully. We ran in the direction of the city, careful not to trip over any rocks.

After what felt like hours, we finally arrived. I slowed down, taking Hana into my arms as we entered the city. I looked around, the street barely visible due to the few dim street lights. I turned around immediately, hearing a barrel fall over in the distance. Another barrel fell, but this time it was closer. Three tall men dressed in black came out from the shadows. I backed away, realizing that no one else was nearby. I clutched Hana in my left arm tightly, holding out my other arm to defend myself. The three men crept closer, careful not to make a sound. Before any of the men could make a move, I closed my eyes, an iron snowflake appearing in my palm. "Cutting snowflakes!" I whispered. I opened my eyes, the single iron snowflake turning into what appeared to be a billion more. The snowflakes rammed into the men, knocking them onto the ground. They screamed out in pain as the snowflakes cut into their skin, leaving blood spatter everywhere. I quickly ran off toward the Mori's house, refusing to look back.
