~Sayuri's P.O.V.~
I stepped into the strange forest, feeling something strange wash over me. "Hana, did you feel that?" I whispered. "Aye.." Hana replied. I took another step, another wave washing over me. "Uhh... Hana?" I stuttered. I stepped further and further into the forest, each step followed by an enormous wave of power washing over me. I set Hana down on a nearby rock and began to scan the forest. Why would a humongous forest like this just suddenly appear? I don't remember this being here before....
Wshhhhh
"Who's there?!" I yelled.
Wshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
"Hello?!" I screeched.
Silence.
"It's alright, you can come out. We won't hurt you!" I tried to sound a bit friendlier. A pale white figure stepped out from the shadows. I squinted, trying to get a better look at the figure. "Who are you?" I asked. No reply. I stepped closer to the figure. What is this thing? I reached out my hand to touch it.
Wshhhhhhh
"Wait! Don't go..." My voice faded. "Please.." I squeaked. I looked up into the tree, the white figure perched upon one of the branches. The figure leaped down onto the ground directly in front of me. There was a long pause. The bright glow that had covered the figure began to fade into a tiny, delicate dark-haired girl. I stared at her in disbelief. A glowing light just turned into a girl? Am I dreaming? I examined her once more. She had pale yellow eyes, short black hair, pointy ears, freckles, and what appeared to be folded down yellow butterfly wings. She wore black gloves and a black and white gown. "Hello!" She smiled. "Uh--um... Hello.." I stammered. "What's your name?" She asked. "Uh... I'm Sayuri.. And this is Hana, my friend." I replied, my voice nearly a whisper. "It's nice to meet you, Sayuri, Hana. I don't get many visitors here, so please excuse my foul behavior! I don't normally speak to people.." She blushed. "Anyways, I guess I should tell you my name, too! I'm Chiyoko, the master of this forest!" She exclaimed proudly. "M-master? You mean this is a g-guild?" I stuttered. "Sayuri, if this is a guild, you should ask her if you could join!" Hana whispered into my ear. "Oh, no! This isn't a guild. I live here by myself. Well, unless you count the forest." She chuckled. "Oh, okay then." I sighed.
"Do you know any magic?" Chiyoko asked. "Me? Magic? No. I wish I knew magic. Oh, what I would give to become a wizard!" I huffed. "In that case, why don't I teach you? I know lots of magic! Powerful magic, too!" She squealed. "Come to think of it, you remind me of someone I used to know. She was a really powerful wizard! Maybe you can be like her, too!" She exclaimed. "Really? What kind of magic did she use?" I nagged, eager for more information. "Hmm... She used a few different kinds, but her strongest form of magic was card magic! She even taught me a little card magic, too! She showed me how to create new magic cards. Watch this!" Chiyoko held out her hand and closed her eyes. A white card appeared in her hand. She opened her eyes and took the card to her mouth, blowing on it.
Bwooosh!!!
Snow appeared everywhere, coating the trees, the ground, and even Hana's head. I gasped in amazement at the beautiful magic. "Wow! Can you teach me magic? Pretty please?" I pleaded. "Aye! Teach me, too!" Hana agreed. "Okay, okay. But in order to learn magic, you have to train. We can start whenever you two are ready!" Chiyoko smiled. "We're ready now!" Hana and I squealed in unison. "Alright, let's get started! But first, I need to get rid of all of this snow." She pulled a yellow card from behind her back and held it in the air. There was a burst of light and in a flash the snow was gone and the sun was shining once again, the dew glistening throughout the forest.
"Now that there's no more snow, we can train properly!" Chiyoko said cheerfully. She smiled at me and held out her hand. I placed my hand in hers and suddenly, everything went black. I blinked, my eyes opening to the blue sky. I looked down, Hana still perched upon the rock. Except.. This time we were in the trees. "What just happened?!" I grabbed on quickly to the tree trunk, afraid that I was going to fall. "Oh, I teleported both of us up here. It's simple, really." She bragged. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I turned around, looking for Chiyoko, but she wasn't there. "Down here!" A voice yelled. I looked down, Chiyoko standing below me, Hana clutched in her arms. "Get me down!!" I screamed. "Get yourself down. The only rule is that you must use magic to get down." She smirked. "But I don't know magic yet!!" I wailed. "Step number one: Observe your surroundings. Strategize on what would help you get down." Chiyoko said calmly. I looked around, spotting vines. I closed my eyes and bent my knees. I leaped forward, opening my eyes and grabbing hold of the vines. I slipped down, nearly falling to the ground. If Chiyoko is the master of this forest, then it must have magic all throughout, like Chiyoko! I scanned the forest, spotting something sparkling from inside of one of the trees. I leaped from branch to branch, finally reaching the glowing tree. I extended my hand, feeling the trunk. I stuck my hand inside of the glowing tree, putting my hand on something round. I stuck my other hand inside of the tree, grabbing the round object. I pulled it out of the tree, astonished. Why is this weird round thing glowing? I examined the object. It was a rather peculiar sight; a dull turquoise sphere was causing this much light. All of a sudden, the sphere floated into the air. I grabbed onto it and held it tightly. As the sphere began to rise, I rose with it. "Uhh, Chiyoko? What is this-- AHH!" I screeched as the sphere began to soar through the forest. I closed my eyes, trying to avoid getting nauseous. The sphere flew faster and faster until my hand slowly began to slip off. I grasped for something to hang on to, but I couldn't find anything to grab. At this point, the sphere was flying directly over the forest. I looked around desperately, but I couldn't find Chiyoko or Hana anywhere. At this rate, I'm going to slip off and-- "AHHHHHHH!!" I screeched as I plummeted down through the trees. I closed my eyes, wishing for a miracle. I waited silently and braced for impact with the ground, but it never came. "Aye! Are you paralyzed?" I heard Hana's voice. "N-no.. Just in s-shock.." I squeaked. Hana slowly lowered me onto the ground across from Chiyoko.
"WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT?! I NEARLY DIED!" I screeched. "Step number two: Find the place between anger and sorrow." Chiyoko said softly.
"What a beautiful baby girl. Oh, if only your father and brother could see you now..." A voice whispered. "They would be so proud. I'm sure you'll grow into a strong, powerful young woman." The voice whispered again. "Oh, if only this moment could last forever...." I tried to open my eyes, but all I saw was darkness. "What a shame that you had to be born in such a terrible blizzard. But I must stay positive. You bring light to this cottage in the middle of this terrible blizzard. You make it seem as if it's the first winter.... So beautiful and precious.. Ah, that's it. Your name will be Sayuri, like the small lilies that blossom even during the harshest winter..."
I blinked my eyes open, the forest reappearing. I sighed. "Did you see it?" Chiyoko asked. "All I saw was darkness. I did hear something, though." I answered. "Umm.. Sayuri... Look at your..." Hana stared at my hand, her eyes wide. I looked down at my hands, both of them covered in what appeared to be snow. It was mixed together with something that can only be described as iron. I stared down at the metallic frost, my eyes widening. "W-what... Is it?" I squeaked. "Your magic." Chiyoko smiled. I held out my hands, my palms facing up. I closed my eyes for a moment. As soon as I opened them, a small, white and gray snowflake appeared floating in the middle of my palm.
