[2 months later]
~Sayuri's P.O.V.~
I yawned, opening my eyes to a sunshine filled room. I sat upright and looked over at Tamotsu and Hana, who were both fast asleep. I quietly pulled the blankets off of me and slid my legs to the side of the bed. I pressed my toes to the ground, careful not to make any noise. I stood up, wincing at the pain in my legs. At least I'm almost done healing.
I tiptoed over to the small dresser. I pulled out a white t-shirt and skirt. I quickly took off my pajamas and slipped on the shirt. What?! This is way too short! It only goes down to my belly! I can't be seen wearing this! I sighed and put on the matching ruffled white skirt. I peeked inside the dresser, failing to find any other clothes. I grunted quietly and tiptoed out the door, ignoring the pain stinging throughout my body.
"My, my. You're up early." Sting said, emerging from the hallway. "Oh, yeah." I blushed, embarrassed that my own brother had to see me in this. A small strawberry red cat peeked out from behind Sting's leg. "Morning, Sayuri!" Lector said cheerfully. "Morning." I replied.
"I don't mean to bother you, but, if you don't mind, would you like to come with Rogue, Yukino, and I? It isn't a dangerous job, so don't worry." Sting asked. "O-Oh, sure! It'll be the first time I've been outside in a few weeks. Is it alright if Hana could come, too?" I replied. "Of course! Rogue and I are bringing Lector and Frosche along as well. I know Tamotsu is still a bit ill, but when he's recovered we'll go on another job. All of us." He smiled. I returned the smile and turned towards the stairs. I walked down them, my legs trembling.
Come on, Sayuri. They're just stairs. Just two months ago you took out a demon. A demon of all things! I sighed, gripping onto the railing. As I stepped off the last stair, Tora came running towards me.
"Hey, Sayuri! It's wonderful to see you up and moving again!" She exclaimed. "U-Uhh, listen, I'm sorry about... What happened last time... I didn't mean to hit you with that fireball..." Tora blushed, scratching her head. "It's alright. There's really not much damage that hasn't been done to me anyways." I flashed a fake smile at her. "Heh.." She forced a laugh. I walked over to the nearest table and sat down.
"Good morning, Sayuri. Need anything?" Suzume approached the table. "Oh, good morning! No, thank you. I'm not very hungry this morning." I replied. "Alrighty. If ya need anything, let me know. I still have a few slices of cake in the back if 'yer interested." She winked and headed back to the bar.
"Mrrrrrrrorning, Sayuriiii!" Hana yawned. She took the seat across from me. "Morning." I replied. "Hey, would you be up for a job later today? Nii-chan promised it wouldn't be dangerous. Plus, Yukino, Rogue, Lector, and Frosche will be there with Sting in case there's any trouble." I leaned on the table, putting on my convincing face. "Depends. Will there be fish afterwards?" Hana scratched her chin. "Maybe. Perhaps Lector can take you out fishing after we finish." I winked. "Aye!" Hana licked her lips.
"Sayuri, Tamotsu would like to speak with you." Yukino tapped my shoulder. "Oh, okay. Thanks, Yukino!" I bowed my head and smiled at her. I stood up and walked over to the stairs and began to climb them, both of my legs trembling. I pulled myself up the stairs using the railings and entered the recovery room.
"Hey, Tamo-chan." I greeted Tamotsu as I entered. I walked over to his bed and sat down on the edge. "Hey, Sayu-chan." He smiled. "How are you feeling?" I examined his bandaged face. "Ehh..." He answered. I crawled over to his side and laid down next to him. I gently poked his forehead.
"Ouch.." He shut his eyes closed. "Why'd you do all this, Tamotsu?" I turned over, facing his shoulder. "Do what?" He asked. "You went through all of this. The pain.." My voice faded. "Well, friends are supposed to do everything they can for each other. If I can save your life, I will. It doesn't matter if I get scratched up in the process, as long as you're okay." He stated. "But it does matter. We're not just best friends, we're partners. As your partner, it's my responsibility to make sure you don't get hurt. But look at you, you went out and got hurt, all to protect me." I sighed. "You did too, y'know." Tamotsu giggled. "I guess you're right... The important thing is that we're both here, together with our friends." I smiled. "Yeah." Tamotsu agreed.
"Sayuri, we're going to leave in a few minutes, so be ready! We're just helping replenish the forest a little, so you will only need a watering can or two." Yukino's voice sounded through the door. I sighed and sat up, crawling out of Tamotsu's bed.
"I'll see you later, then." I waved to Tamotsu and grabbed my new satchel from the little dresser all three of us shared. I walked out the door and climbed back down the stairs, my legs trembling once again. Hana greeted me at the bottom of the stairs, a watering can hanging on her tail.
"Come on, they're about to leave without us! We still have to get a good seat in the vehicle!" Hana grabbed my wrist and yanked me out the door. "Okay, okay. Let's go." I climbed into the magic vehicle, placing Hana on my lap to conserve space. Rogue was already sitting in the driver's seat, along with Sting in the front passenger seat.
"Hold up!!" Yukino yelled, quickly climbing into the vehicle. "Oi!! Wait for me!!" Tora leaped in behind Yukino, taking a seat next to her. Poor Yukino, she's crushed in the middle of Tora and I..
"Ready, everyone?" Lector popped his head over the seat. "Yep!" Hana and Yukino replied in unison. "As I'll ever be.." I muttered. "This'll be a piece of cake." Tora snorted. "Fro thinks so, too!" Frosche poked his head out from the driver's seat.
I smiled, wondering what it would be like to go on my first job with a real guild.
