~Tamotsu's P.O.V.~
I ran down the dirt road, nearing the forest. I slowed down, causing Hana to crash into my back. "Aye! Watch it!" She hissed. I rolled my eyes. "Y'know what, why don't I just carry you?" She said, grabbing onto the back of my shirt. "W-Wait--" I yelled as I felt my feet being lifted off the ground. I squirmed, fearful that I might fall. "Stop squirming. You won't fall." Hana reassured me. I stopped squirming. Hana carried me higher into the air.
"The two rivers should be around here somewhere." I told Hana as I scanned the forest. "Aye." She replied. "There they are!" I pointed at the two rivers. "My mother once told me that the two rivers represent the darkness and light in our world. The clear water is the light, and the murkier water is the darkness. They both start and end at the same points, and even intertwine towards the end." I told Hana as she lowered me onto the ground. I looked around the clearing. Everything is so beautiful here. I sat down on the ground.
"Aye, Tamotsu! Is this ground even safe? Sayuri told me that land near water can sometimes be.." I blocked her out. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
"Aye! Tamotsu! This ground is really unsta--BLE!!!" Hana yelled. I opened my eyes, interrupted by the ground crumbling underneath of us. We fell down into a pitch black cave, crashing onto a thick, mushy surface.
"Aye! Are you alive?" Hana called out. "Yeah." I yelled. I crawled over to Hana and took her into my arms. I brushed the strange goo off of her and set her on top of my head. "See anything?" I asked. "No." She sighed. "Wait-- I see a light! Tamo, I'll take you to it!" Hana quickly sprouted her wings and picked me up by my shirt, flying both of us over towards the light.
"A door?" Hana said as we reached the light. "It's unlocked." I said, turning the doorknob. We stepped through the door, staring at an endless hallway of prison cells.
~Sayuri's P.O.V.~ (Earlier that day.)
"Do you have any food, and maybe some water? I'm starving and dehydrated!" I pouted, grabbing onto the metal bars with my hands. "How many times do I have to tell you, pest? You don't get any." The strange cockroach woman said. She turned around and walked down the hallway, staring into each and every empty cell. I sighed and crawled over to the corner, pulling my legs into a cross-legged position. I held out my palm and closed my eyes.
Come on... Just a few snowflakes! "Oomph!" I screeched. I was flung against the opposite wall. "What...?" I looked down at the ground, spotting something shiny. A weapon? Where did this come from? The only weapon I use is my Iron Ice Blade... I stood up and walked over to the weapon, picking it up. I examined it closely. A scythe? I've never heard of anyone who uses scythes... Except maybe one of the royal executioners.. I touched the blade, my hand instantly turning cold. Wait, what? Why does this feel like... Ice? I held the sword next to myself, the bottom of it touching the ground. Wow, it's taller than me. I held the scythe with both of my hands, pointing the blade at the door. I stepped back, preparing to charge. I ran into the door, slicing through the metal bars. I ran as quickly as I could down the hallway, breezing past all the empty cells. I held my scythe in the air, ready to use it to help me jump. Just breathe... Extend in front, to the ground... And lift! I quickly grabbed onto the ledge of the window, heaving myself up. I crawled out, pulling my scythe out from behind me.
I ran down the road towards the sunset. I have to go to the place where the two rivers meet. But where in Fiore is that? I slowed down near the end of the road and looked around. I spotted a familiar hill in the distance and ran to it.
---
I huffed, wiping the sweat off of my forehead as I reached the top of the hill. As soon as I had caught my breath, I ran down the hill and into the forest. I closed my eyes and continued running.
"Hey! Watch it, you idiot!" I opened my eyes, crashing into a mound of light pink hair. "Ooph!" I fell on top of the person, pummeling both of us to the ground.
"You moron! Look at what you did! Thanks to you, I lost that rabbit!" I looked up, a dark skinned, pink haired girl brushing her clothes off. She bent down, picking up a log. She walked towards me, slamming the log on top of my head. "Ouch!" I yelled. "That's what you get. Now scram." She ordered. "But I just got here!" I demanded. "Well, now you can leave. If I were you, I'd be excited to leave. This isn't a place for little girls to run around and play dolls." She snorted.
"For your information, I am no little girl. I just escaped that prison back there on my own." I declared. "Likely story. Scram, brat." The girl ordered. "What if I don't leave?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. The girl turned her back to me and shuffled around a tree. Maybe she's looking for something.. "I'll make you." The girl came out from behind the tree, a bright orange flame in her palm.
"A wizard, eh?" I cringed. I'm not in the mood for more annoying wizards like her.. "Two." The girl smirked, pulling a necklace from her pocket. "Hey! That's mine!" I took a step forward, nearly grabbing the item. "Now, now. Be patient, brat." The girl waved the necklace above my head. I leapt into the air, trying to grab it.
"All things come at a price." She said, her mouth forming a smirk. I cringed. "What do you want?" I asked. "Show me your magic." She demanded. "Wait-- How did you know that I'm a wizard?" I stomped my foot. "Easy. How else would you have been able to escape that living hell back there?" "B-But, you didn't believe me!" I stuttered. "Kid, I know when someone's lying or telling the truth." She said. She let go of the necklace, allowing it to fall into my hands.
"Sayuri Mori. Iron Ice Devil Slayer. Orphan. Trying to find a lost relative." The girl blurted out. "W-What?! How do you know all of that?!" I demanded, stepping forward. "Oh, right. I should introduce myself, too." She rolled her eyes. "Tora Akibara. Youngest of the Akibara Siblings. Fire Mage of the North. Came down here to get away." Tora smiled. I tilted my head. "Fine." She muttered.
"They call me the Tiger of the North, but you can just call me Tora. For the time being, of course."
