Chapter 18: Ankhersam

~Sayuri's P.O.V.~

I followed Tora down a thin dirt road. We crossed onto a larger road. I brushed the dust off of my clothes silently. Tora waved, pointing to a tall building at the end of the road. "That's it." She said. We ran towards the building, stopping in front of the doors. Tora pulled on the handle, revealing a large room full of people. Each of them have a mark somewhere on them. Sort of like mine, but mine is a bit... Different. I examined the room.

"Hey! Lil' Sis!" A woman yelled, stampeding towards us. She tackled Tora to the ground and started throwing fists at her. Tora punched the woman back, laughing. Both girls giggled as they pummeled each other, landing blows on the other's face. "Suzume, Tora, let's calm ourselves, please. We have a visitor." A woman with short white hair emerged from the crowd.

Wow, I wish I was that beautiful!

"Oh, psh! Who gives a--" Tora began. "Silence!" A tall blonde man said. I stared at him, my jaw dropping.

T-The-- On--

"Sabertooth, calm yourselves!" The man ordered. Immediately, the guild was silenced. The man walked down the stairs, leveling himself with the rest of the guild. A strawberry red cat crawled onto his shoulder, smiling.

"Visitor, please step forward." The man ordered. I stepped through the crowd, gulping. I trembled, feeling weak and powerless against someone his height. The man looked down, towering over my shivering body. He held his hand out, offering me to shake it. I gulped and quickly shook his hand. "What's your name?" He asked. "S-Sayuri.." I squeaked. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Sayuri. My name is Sting. I'm the master of Sabertooth." He smiled. "Tora, is this girl a mage?" He called out. "Yessir." She bowed. "Sayuri, are you in a guild?" The man asked. "N-No, sir.." I stuttered. "Ah. Well, you're welcome to stay here for a few days to regain your strength. I can already tell that you've been through a lot." The man patted my head. "You'll stay with Tora and Suzume for now. Go on, they probably won't bite." He winked, nudging me towards Tora. "T-That's okay, I need to find my friends, first.." I stammered. "Just go with it, then sneak out. I'll just tell him you needed to go the bathroom, or something." Tora whispered. "B-But the bathroom is indoors!" I whispered. "It is? Oops." She rolled her eyes. Tora grabbed my hand and pulled me away from the crowd.

"Listen, Sayuri. As soon as the Master goes upstairs, I'm busting you out. Got it?" She declared. "Y-Yes!" I stuttered. Tora stared at the stairs, watching the master go up. Her grip tightened and she yanked me towards the door.

"Go on, find 'em! Come back here when you do so we know you're alright." Tora pushed me out the door. I nodded. I ran down the road, waving to her. "Thank you!" I yelled. "You're welcome.." I heard Tora yell into the distance.

~Tamotsu's P.O.V.~

I opened my eyes to a burnt forest. I looked around, shocked at what was surrounding me. I bent down, picking up a twig. It immediately crumbled to ashes as I touched it. I looked down, spotting Hana laying in the ash. I quickly scooped her up, cradling her in my arms. I collapsed to my knees and began to cry.

"Hana..." I sobbed. I sighed in relief as I felt her breath. "Sayuri... Sayuri... Sayuri... Please be alright.." I wailed. I set Hana onto my lap and buried my face into my hands. "T-Tamo.." Hana whispered. I moved my hands away from my face and looked at her. "I-I know where Sayu... Sayuri is..." She squeaked. I picked her up and sprung to my feet. "Where?!" I screamed. "T-There..." She pointed to the east. I began to run towards to where Hana was pointing. Twigs scraped my legs, but I didn't care. I kept running, pushing through the piles of ashes. I coughed, inhaling ashes into my lungs. I closed my eyes and continued running. I winced as I felt sharp twigs dig into my legs. I ran faster, spotting a green forest. This burnt forest probably looked like that one before.. I ran as fast as I could, pushing myself into the forest. I clutched Hana in one of my arms, forming a sword in the other. I slashed through the trees.
