Sarah Beth-

Gregory's house sat on top of a hill in the middle of a quiet country side. The ground was surrounded by beautiful oak and apple trees. The plush, green front yard was gated in by a rickety, wooden fence. All in all, it was peaceful.

I nerviously walked up the red dirt path leading to the white front door. I wasn't suppose to be here. When I left this morning I had told Auntie that I was going to Eleanor's, because I knew she would never let me go to Gregory's; after all, she told me the night Luna came over.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

I lightly knocked on the door.

"Hello?" The door opened to reveal a skinny, light haired woman.

"Hello!" I cheerfully said back.

"Oh! You must be Sarah Beth! Gregory has told me about you!"

"He has?"

"Oh, yes! My little Gregory-Gumdrop hasn't talked about anything else all summer!"

"Mum? Who are you- Sarah Beth!"

"Yeah!" I giggled as he pushed his mother out of the way to hug me.

"You came! I didn't think you were going to!"

"Why wouldn't I?"

"Well.." It went without saying that he was referring to Auntie.

"She doesn't know."

"Who doesn't know what?" Mrs. Goyle asked.

"No one...May I come in?"

"Of course!" She stepped out of the doorway so I could get through. "Are you kids hungry?"

"Not re-"

"I'll go get you two some snacks!" Mrs. Goyle hurried into another room.

"Wow. Is she always like this?"

"Most of the time." Gregory started leading me into a sitting room. "She worries al-"

"Ahh!" I screamed, interrupting him.

"What?" He looked around in confusion.

"Get it away!" I screamed as it came nearer.

"Awl..." He picked it up, realizing what I was talking about. "He's only a puppy...His name is Puddles!"

"His name is Satan!" He put the scoundrel on the ground and it came towards me again.

"He only licks..." As if to confirm Gregory's statement, the dog brushed his horrid pink tongue across my ankle.

"Ah! He's tasting me!"

"He's kissing you!"

"Get it off! Get! It! Off!"

"Sarah Be-"

"Ahhh!" I jumped onto his sofa, hoping the evil creature wouldn't follow. It went as far as the edge of it. "Gregory!" I covered my eyes with my hands... If I couldn't see it, it wasn't there...

"Yip!" The dog barked.

"Ahhh!"

"Is everything okay in here?" I heard Mrs. Goyle asked, panicked.

"Mum, can you put Puddles somewhere? I think he scares Sarah Beth."

"Oh, yes! I surely will!"

"...Is it gone?" I asked without uncovering my eyes.

"Yeah, Mum took him to her room." I opened my eyes.

"Can we go outside?" I didn't want to risk running into the mongrel again.
