The last two weeks have been nothing but ultimate joy, well, apart from the weekends since I slept throughout most of them.
The first week was one of the most embarrassing weeks of my life, but gladly, Mr. Harvey understood that I was having a tough course, and fortunately, the recent week that passed had utterly changed. I had a hand of quick typing and calling. I no more faced problems with picking up the phone and saying I was the secretary and Mr. Harvey will get back to them later. Believe me, whoever hears this, will totally make fun of me, but I have never had such an experience in jobs. I was always a part time worker, so now that everything looks so complete and real, I hardly believe I can handle this. I guess life does shock us after all.
My two weeks journey was easier with Veronica by my side. She might be the more mature secretary, but she never had a second of impatience or anger which I am really glad about. If I were her, I would totally lose it on myself, so her nerves are buried deep within her. Ever since that dinner I had with her on my first day of work, we hung out everyday. We usually grabbed coffee after work or ended up chatting at some little restaurant. She is quite a good listener, and despite my habit of criticism, she learnt to flow along with me, which is really unusual. I thought she would just push herself away, but instead, we are now closer than ever.
Talking about bonds, Marcel never talks to me. Whenever we pass one another, he either looks the opposite way, or walks back when he sees me walk his direction. This sounds as though I have no taste in men, but I actually like Marcel. It's not because he has a bad taste in some of his clothes, and it's not of the way his goofy laugh echoes around the corridors. It's about the way he thinks of himself so low. It's the way I read him and I totally understand why he is the way he is. I am stupid, I know, but why is it killing me to know someone who might not like people like me after all?
"Nora," Veronica snaps her fingers as she sings-song my name. She pushes her eye glasses further up the bridge of her nose as I come to focus at my current environment.
"Yes?" I ask, going back to typing on the keyboard. I had to be finished with this letter within an hour so that I will be able to print it out on a sheet of paper and submit it to Mr. Harvey, in order for him to sign it and send the mail-man to one of his clients.
"You zoned out again. May I ask why?" She slightly shifts her monitor to the side, leaving a little space for me to see her between the monitor and stack of papers she got on her desk.
"I was just thinking ab-" I am interrupted when I see elevator open to expose the couple of guys walk in.
"No way," I mumble, removing my eye glasses from my face and place them on the desk.
It was the Lawson. I never imagined I could see them in my lifetime, but here I am, nearly on the edge of screaming. In the literal world, I held on to my chair as they had their stride to the big door, which they pulled open and met the loud greetings of Mr. Harvey.
As soon as they got in, I felt my jaw drop.
"Do you like them?" Veronica, as usual, snaps me out of my trance.
"I love their songs. This is just, I don't know how to-"
"You'll be fine," She re-assures me as she grins, fixing the button to one of her blue blouses. I wondered whether she liked blue that much. "Now, what has made you lose focus?"
"Lose focus?" I ask loudly. "I am doing my job well, I suppose."
"No.. not at your job," She moves the stack of papers away to see me properly, "I mean you did zone out. You never told me why."
"Oh, well.. it's Ma-" I am interrupted again as I see Marcel rush down our small space to the door, where he nearly drops down some pictures. A picture falls, and I look away, knowing he won't do any sort of move. As soon as he picks it up, he says something.
