"Ready to actually see the new island?" Bree asked.
"I'm suspicious," I replied.
"Don't be," Adam assured, "Actually, just between the two of us, you probably should."
"Adam!" Bree exclaimed, hitting him.
"Besides," I said, "How bad could it be? Another game of Wipeout?"
"Exactly," Bree said, "Now, can we go?"
"Not quite," Adam said, "He needs a background check."
"Hmm," I mused, "My current background is a cityscape with a rising sun. Happy?"
"Dang, this guy is good," Adam said, "Prepared and everything."
"Now can we please go?" Bree asked.
"I don't know, can we?" Adam mocked. Bree was fuming.
"Yeah," I said, continuing what Adam was doing, "Are you sure you want to go? I completely understand if you don't want to.
"Oh my god just get on the freaking hydro-loop!" Bree screamed.
"Dang," I said, "You bionic people have really short fuses."
"We do not!" Adam shouted, hitting me with his super strength. Getting up, I said, "I believe that just proved my last statement."
"You know what?" Bree asked, grabbing Adam and I, "We are going in the hydro-loop and we are going to the island!"
She hauled us on to the hydro-loop and pressed the button, starting up the hydro-loop.
It was even faster than I remembered.
We got to the island in a matter of seconds, and I stepped out into a totally revamped commons area.
"Dang," I said, "This place got an upgrade."
"And the design is different too," Bree said, "The island is like one giant ∞. The one loop is the dorms, the other loop is the training areas and labs."
"Mr. Davenport bragged about it for weeks," Adam commented. Just then, a girl wearing a uniform like mine came in, except hers was red.
"Hi," she said, "I'm assuming you're Garrett?"
"That's me," I responded, "And you look familiar. Have we met?"
"Not that I remember," she said, "And by the way, I'm Taylor."
"Nice to meet you," I said shaking her hand.
"Hey guys," Taylor said to Adam and Bree, "Why don't I show Garrett around? You guys probably have classes to teach."
"Thanks S- I mean Taylor!" Bree said, "Come on Adam. We have to cover both Leo and Chase's classes."
Adam and Bree left, and Taylor started showing me around.
"Here are the capsule dorms," Taylor said, leading me into a hallway full of sliding glass doors. I looked into a room to see a capsule, a desk, and some other stuff.
"Seems sparse," I remarked, looking at a couple more.
"Yeah," Taylor said, "I was one of the lucky ones that was out in the real world awhile. I actually have some stuff."
"Well, do I have one?" I asked.
"What? A capsule?" Taylor asked. I gave her a 'duh' look. "I think so. Let me check."
Taylor sped off. Speeding back, she said, "It's on the other side of the dorms. Come on, why don't you try super speeding there?"
"I'm not so sure about that," I said, "I'm not so good about controlling it. I've only had bionics for a couple weeks, and I've run into more walls than an average person does in their lifetime. Trust me, I looked it up."
"Just try it," Taylor reassured.
"Fine," I sighed, "But if I get a concussion, I am blaming you."
With that, I tentatively super sped off. But this time, I felt more in control. It was probably the uniform, but I sensed a wall coming up, and focused on stopping. I didn't actually make it, but I hit the wall a lot softer than I usually do. Taylor sped up next to me.
"Do you have a concussion?" She asked.
"Nope, I don't think," I said, "You got off the hook." I looked around, and saw a door with a sign simply labeled 'Garrett-Buttercup'.
"What is with this buttercup crap?" I asked.
"It's your color rank," Taylor explained, "Buttercup was the imaginary lowest level until you showed up..."
"I'm sorry, what?" I asked, "I saved their lives and I get an imaginary lowest level?"
"Don't worry," Taylor said, "If you're not like Leo, you'll move up the ranks fast. Yellow is beginner, green is intermediate, orange is advanced, red is expert."
"Cool, but I've never slept standing up before."
"You'll get used to it, and besides. I'm sure if you beg hard enough, Mr. Davenport will tip the capsule sideways."
"Yeah, or I could just skip that part and invent a sideways capsule with pillows. Hey, on that note, what are the labs like?"
"Let me show you!" With that, Taylor grabbed me,and a cold sensation rippled through me, like I was being pulled apart and being put back together. Then it hit me that that's what just happened.
"Here is the lab," Taylor said, "And that was geo-leaping, by the way."
"I could get used to this!" I exclaimed, "This place is amazing!"
"Anyway, your training starts tomorrow, get ready," Taylor said.
"Thanks!" I replied, and she left.
After spending a couple hours in the lab tooling around, I used the hydro-loop to go to the dorms and went into my dorm room for the first time. I pressed the button I had brought from the lab after placing it on my capsule. It turned sideways. I took my backpack which I had forgotten that I had been wearing the whole time and took out a travel pillow.
"Yeah, I could get used to this."
