I was getting impatient. Where was Taylor? The tournament was today, and she was fifteen minutes late and counting. Just then, Travis geoleaped in.
"Hey Garrett!" he greeted, "Wait. Where's Taylor?"
"I don't know," I responded, "It's been fifteen minutes. Not that I don't like skipping, but this seems kinda pointless."
"So, what do we do?" Travis asked.
"I don't know!" I exclaimed, "You're the expert! I'm just a buttercup."
"Then why don't you search the island? With your speed, you could easily search the island in less than a minute!"
"Okay," I agreed hesitantly, "But if I'm not back in 60 seconds, track my GPS and geoleap over."
"Whatever you say," Travis mocked.
"Really?" I asked, "Do you want me to run or not!"
"Just go!" Travis said impatiently.
"Okay, okay," I mocked, accidentally using my vocal manipulation. Oh great. That got him mad.
"JUST! GO!" he screamed.
Taking the hint, I sped off, doing my best to hit as little corners as possible. Curse Davenport and his stupid circular island. Finally, I thought I saw Taylor. And sped right past her. I quickly turned around and stopped where she was. And she was holding a brick.
"What the heck are you doing?" I asked as calmly as possible.
"I'm not competing in this," Taylor said, as if she was in a trance, "I can't do this."
"Yes you can!" I said, "You're one of the best students in the academy! You were Krane's lead soldier- right? Anyway, you're good."
"But not good enough, which is why I'm making myself ineligible for this," Taylor said determinedly. Then I realized what she was doing.
"Oh no," I warned.
"I can't do this!" She protested.
"Not with a brick you can't!" I shot back, "I think you need something a bit stronger than just a brick to break your leg. You're freaking genetically engineered! That won't work."
"Good point," she said, tossing the brick aside.
"Thank God," I muttered. Then she shot an energy ball at the ceiling, making it almost collapse.
"What are you doing! And how hard is it to keep this island in one piece!" I shouted, "God, you bionic people and destruction of islands!"
"Don't try to stop me!" Taylor shouted back, "If you were able to invent the technology to fix my eyesight, I think you can fix this! But after this competition!"
She shot the energy ball at the ceiling a second time, and as the orange sphere made contact with the ceiling, I acted on instinct. I threw my hands out, and the concrete stopped falling. I realized that I had just activated my molecular kinesis! But it wasn't gonna last long. Where was Travis when you needed him?
-15 seconds later-
I didn't know how much longer I could take it. The concrete bar was feeling heavier and heavier, and Taylor refused to budge. I realized that I could've just thrown the ceiling aside, but by the time that thought had formulated in my head, I was too exhausted. Blood started coming out of my nose. But I had to at least keep trying. Taylor was worth it.
"Just drop it on me!" Taylor shouted.
"Not if I can do anything about it!" I shouted back. Black spots started forming in my vision. I wasn't gonna last much longer. But finally, Travis geoleaped in. Assessing the situation, he sent a black energy blast at Taylor, and when it hit her, she was geoleaped next to Travis. I dropped the ceiling. And fell down.
"Dude, you okay?" Travis asked, running over.
"I'm fine," I said weakly, "Just another day at work, or something."
Taylor started over, but Travis stopped her.
"Go away," he said, "You've done enough."
She looked stunned for a moment, but decided to do what Travis asked and super speed away.
"You know, you could've super speeded her out of harms way," Travis mused.
"But this makes me look like a martyr, or something." I responded, still weak.
"Martyrs die," Travis pointed out.
"You know what? I need a nap," I declared, and hauled myself to my dorm. When I get the energy, I'm gonna kill Taylor. But after the tournament. She'd better not make that bloody nose for nothing....

Yo.
So, sorry about no author's note last week (I was too dead, then too busy). Anyway, I'm back on my game... assuming that I had a game to begin with...
Anyway, I may have found actors for Garrett and Heather or Fern. However, I'm hesitant about it. You know what, I'll probably just publish my chosen actors a year after I finish this series. That's how I roll.
One last thing: don't smash your leg with a brick. If you really want to break it, jump out of the window, or something. But I didn't give you that idea.
Anyway, have a [adjective] week! I'm done thinking.
