BROOKE'S POV
"SWINGS!!!" Niall yelled, pulling me to the playground area. There were a few kids playing but it was pretty cold for them to be out for a long time. Niall and I sat on swings by each other and started swinging. "Haha we're married!" I said, laughing. "Um what? No we aren't..." Niall said completely confused. "Yeah we are. See we are swinging right by each other at the same pace. But now it looks like we are slowly drifting away..." "No! Brooke! Don't leave me!" Niall said a little to loud and started 'sobbing.' "Too bad Niall... Bye!" I waved and smiled as he stopped swinging and put his face in his hands.
"Um what's wrong with Niall?" Liam asked, walking over to us. "Oh I left him," I said causally. "What? How could you do that to Niall?!" "It was easy, we weren't going at the same pace anymore." Liam looked at me with a confused face. "Nevermind." "Wait so you and Niall did or did not break up?" Liam asked. "You guys broke up?" Louis joined in. "No! It was a game!" Niall said starting to swing again. I smiled at Liam and Louis and continued swinging.
Niall looked like he was about to say something when my phone started ringing. I pulled it out of my pocket and looked at the caller ID, 'Mom.' I haven't talked to her since I've been here, so I might as well have a quick chat. "I'll be right back," I told Niall, walking away and answering my phone, "Hello?" "Hi sweetie how is the UK?" My mom said through the phone. "It's going good, how is everything back home?" "Nothing to exciting, the little neighbor girls keep asking where you are, they are really hoping you will come and visit soon." I totally forgot about the girls I would babysit every Sunday morning, but I don't think I'm coming home soon. "Oh how are they?" "They're good but really miss you." "Tell them I miss them too," I sat down on a bench figuring my mom is going to say something and go into great detail like she always does. "So anything new you want to tell me?" The first thing that came to mind was Niall. "Um, I got a job and start tomorrow." "Oh so I take it you won't be coming home any time soon..." Ugh her voice! She was talking in the 'I'm-annoyed-and-slightly-disappointed-in-your-choices' voice. She always used that voice when I was out later than curfew and she thought I was lying about what I was doing. "Yeah, I'm not because I'm spending time with my biological family. Something I thought I was spending my whole life with!" "It wasn't as easy as you think, telling you that you were adopted! And we both," "No, save it. I don't want to hear it." And with that I hung up.
I continued sitting there for a while. I had made it to the other side of the park. I had always wondered aimlessly when I would talk on the phone, so it's no surprise I'm on the other side of the park. I'm still not entirely over my mom not telling me I was adopted. I really only needed some time to just calm down and think. I'm really don't want to go back home, I have family (that doesn't lie to me like something about my biological family) and awesome friends, Skyler is visiting for a while and an amazing boyfriend. Everything I didn't have back home is here. Except for Skyler, she is what's best of both worlds.
"Brooke?" I was pulled out of my thoughts. I looked up and saw Sam standing there with a concerned look on his face. "Oh, hi Sam!" I said as cheerily as I could. "Are you okay?" He asked. "Yeah, I'm fine." "Are you sure?" He sat down next to me. "Well I just got off the phone with my mom, my adoptive mom, and she is really upset with me because I'm not coming home anytime soon. I got a job here and hopefully will be moving out soon. And she just ugh, it's like she's giving me the guilt trip," I explained, letting a tear fall down my cheek. "Oh, Brooke, it's okay. You don't have to go back. You should be where it makes you happy and with the people that makes you happy. Obviously your parents aren't making you very happy, so don't go back until you think you're ready." "That is literally just what I needed to hear! Thank you so much Sam," then without thinking I gave him and hug. Hugs always calmed me down for some odd reason. It was like second nature to hug someone when I'm upset. "Anytime Brooke," he replied, hugging back.
"Brooke..." I heard someone barely whisper behind me. I stopped hugging and turned around. "Niall," I stood up and started walking towards him, but he just backed away. "Niall, this is Sam, I met him a couple days ago, it's not what it looks like," I explained to Niall. "Yeah, I'm sure it is," Niall said walking away.
I sat back down by Sam on the bench. "Look, he'll come around. He's just confused," Sam said. This is just great, my mom practically hates me and my boyfriend can't trust me. "Thanks Sam," I replied, "I think I'm gonna go home." "Okay, call or text me if you need anything." "Okay, thanks again Sam," I walked back to where the guys and Skyler were.
Everyone, except Niall, was there. "Hey Brooke!" Louis said. "Hi," I replied. "Are you okay?" Liam asked me quietly. "Yeah, I just don't feel the greatest," I replied, "I'm actually gonna go home." "Are you sure you're okay?" Liam asked again. "Yeah I'm fine, you guys have fun!" I said, leaving Molly with Louis, they look like they're having fun, and started walking home.
NIALL'S POV
I looked around trying to find somewhere where I could just sit down. I saw a small cafe across the street and I jogged over to it and went inside. There was a small arm chair in the corner so I sat down there.
Who was that guy? Brooke couldn't be cheating on me! My thoughts went wild about what just happened. I tried to convince myself she wasn't cheating and he was just a friend, but it's harder than it looks.
A couple girls, about 13 years old, came in and noticed me. They came over and asked for pictures and I forced a smile and tried to look happy. Before try walked away, one of them turned to me, "Are you ok? You look upset." "Umm, yeah I'm fine," I replied. "Ok..." She said, clearly unconvinced.
My phone vibrated in my pocket, indicating I got a text. 'Hey, where are you? We can't find you...' Zayn texted me. Oh I forgot to tell anyone I left the park... 'Uh I'm at some coffee place, I'm gonna head home tho' I typed, leaving the coffee shop. I looked around for somewhere that looked familiar. I saw the grocery store up the road and headed up there. Then I knew where I was and went to where we were staying.
I walked through the door and Liam and Louis were sitting on the couch and Zayn was in the kitchen. "Hey," I said, taking off my shoes. "Thanks for telling us you left," Liam said, standing up. "Liam, calm down. I just forgot to say something." "I am calm... And I was just wondering where you were." I walked into the kitchen and Zayn turned to me, "You okay mate?" I saw out of the corner of my eye Liam sitting at the table, waiting for an answer. "Uh yeah, just peachy," I replied, a hint of sarcasm in my voice. "You sure?" I lowered my voice so Liam couldn't hear, "Tell you later," then walked out.
It's not that I don't want Liam knowing about this, I just ugh I don't even know. I went to the room I was staying in and flopped on my bed. I stated at the ceiling. Was I overreacting? I hope not. Without thinking, I pulled out my phone and started texting, 'Can we talk?' and sent it to Brooke. She probably won't text me back. I probably screwed everything up. Good going.
I looked down at my vibrating phone, 'When?' Thank God, Brooke texted me back. 'Can you come over tonight around 6?' A minute later Brooke replied, 'Ok.' Great! I hope this goes well...
