"Hello." Carrie answered her phone with a smile, knowing it was Mike.
"Hi. How are you?" Mike said as Carrie laid in her bed, pulling the covers over her.
"Alright. You?"
"Worried. About you." Mike answered causing her to become confused. "I am worried that you aren't okay." The man added, causing her to frown.
That's where it began, Carrie explained to him how she'd been since her father's passing. It was so easy to talk to him, almost felt as if they'd known each other for years. Normally, Carrie had problems opening up to people, but not Mike. He was different for her.
The two talked for hours, non-stop. Neither of them wanted to hang up, they loved talking to one another. It was a bond that neither of them had experienced before.
"Goodnight..." Carrie replied before closing her eyes, slowly beginning to fall asleep.
"Goodnight beautiful." Mike whispered softly, unaware that she could hear him.
In the Morning
For the first time in almost eleven months, Carrie awoke with a smile on her face and there wasn't a doubt in her mind that it was because of Mike.
The blond headed down the stairs, and began making breakfast for her mother and herself.
The second Carol entered the kitchen, she saw something she hasn't seen in nearly a year. Her daughter was smiling. It wasn't a forced smile, or a fake smile, or just Carrie gritting her teeth, that smile was real.
"Oh!" Carrie gasped quietly, as she turned around, shocked to see her mother standing in the entrance of the kitchen. "I didn't know you were awake. I made us breakfast." Carrie smiled, placing a few strawberries on the stack of pancakes she'd prepared for her mother.
"This looks delicious." Carol sighed as she took her seat at the long dinning room table, in front of her plate.
"I know. I am so hungry." Carrie agreed, reaching over grasping Carol's hand. "Dear Lord, I want to thank you for this day and thank you for every blessing you have given us. I pray that you bless this food, that I have prepared, and help it be a nourishment to our bodies. In Jesus name I pray, Amen." Carrie finished the prayer, Carol staring at her daughter in shock.
"Care. What happened last night? You're so happy." The mother stated, before taking a bite of her pancakes.
"Mike called last night, we talked till almost four. It felt like I could talk to him about any and everything." Carrie tried her best explaining, although her feelings seemed to have no explanation. Mike simply just made her happy.
"Carrie Marie Underwood, are you blushing?" Carol questioned, causing her daughter to softly bite her lip.
"Am I?" She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, glancing up at her mom who was holding back a laugh.
"Carrie. I am glad that you're back to being your happy self. I've missed this side of you." Carol wrapped her arms around Carrie from behind, squeezing her tightly causing Carrie to let out a giggle.
