"Thomas!"

I heard one last, final shout rip through the maze, the sound of the walls crushing along the distance before everything went to a quiet still; so quiet, I could hear the faint inhale and exhale of my shallow breaths.

I waited, patiently, remaining hidden beneath a large pile of thick vines, leaves, and dense shrub. There was nothing but utter silence, darkness, and distant cranking of metal walls from miles away. No more shrieks, no more cries of fear of death echoed, and no more Grievers.

I began to slowly push myself out of the greenery, the throbbing ache across my lower back and hip continuing to remind me of the unfortunate set of circumstances I was forced to be in. I used the wall to stabilize my balance, my head pounding, my legs weak, my body drenched in sweat.

I slowly made my way in the direction of Minho's last gut-wrenching scream, hoping he and Thomas were still alive and safe, but that only felt like a figment of my imagination.

I continued making my way through the hell-hole of a maze, my eyes peering through the distance, constantly taking glances behind me and above me, waiting for any sort of sound that may decide to creep up on me before it's too late.

I looked up to my left, Alby fast asleep with vines holding him up against the wall, mostly hidden underneath the leaves that weaved their way against concrete. I kept pushing onward, noticing the sky beginning to lighten ever so slightly. I forced my limbs to work, to keep me going onward, but everything in my body was screaming to find rest, to give up, to lay down. Everything hurt, everything was sore after lying on the cold concrete for hours, hoping this night would finally come to an end.

I made a left turn, watching for my surroundings, hesitant to keep going, until suddenly, my eyes fell upon a piece of fabric that had been torn, though no blood was in sight. It was a piece of Thomas's shirt, a light tan and cotton-like fabric.

I lifted my eyes to look ahead, my heart hoping I'd find something to tell me they were alive and still breathing.

And just then, as I began walking past an alleyway that was usually cut off by the large solid walls, a Griever, lifeless, still, and oozing the breakage of its insides. It had been crushed between the walls, a few of its legs reaching out of the trap in desperation.

Something or someone killed it.

I inhaled a deep breath, my spirits beginning to lift as I held onto the hope that Thomas and Minho did, in fact, make it out alive, and if they were, they would be headed for Alby as light began to creep in from the east side of the maze.

I pushed further back, forcing myself to make my way to Alby and then the entrance, now at a light jog. I groaned in frustration, the pain nearly becoming unbearable, sweat dripping down every inch of my skin.

I turned a corner, hearing some sort of grunting and light conversation at the end of the long trench. "Minho..." I could barely breathe out, inhaling a deep breath in hopes of catching my strength. I pushed on. "Minho!" I finally shouted, nearly limping my way toward the distant rustling of noise.
