I placed my hand over my mouth, experiencing the familiar burning sensation in the bridge of my nose. I looked around at the people here for me and my vision stopped on the group of my 5 closest friends from New York in the very front of everyone. I couldn't move, my body felt numb. These five girls were the girls I went to for help after my grandma died; the five girls that were there when the rest of the world wasn't. I couldn't hear the people talking to me, all I heard was many muffled voices as the girls walked over to me, taking me into a group hug. I dropped my head as the tears fell, forgetting how good it felt to be in the warm embrace of my bestfriends. Just then, everything went back to normal. I looked up at the girls and my vision landed on Aubrey, my closest friend out of all, and she opened her arms as I gladly accepted her gesture, crying into her shoulder, "I missed you so much." "I missed you too," she whispered into my neck, squeezing me tighter. "Happy birthday beautiful," she whispered into my hair as I managed to reply, "thank you." I pulled away from her, laughing slightly. She gripped my face, wiping my tears with her thumbs before stepping over, allowing me to greet the others.
"Wow," I blurted out, my body trapped between Wes and the doorway. Our fingers were interlocked as he laughed. "You did good Stromberg, I would've never expected this." He smiled widely before placing a long kiss to my lips, "good. I wanted your birthday to be unforgettable," he whispered as I chuckled, "trust me, I will never forget this birthday." He laughed again before wrapping his arms around me and kissing my forehead. "How'd you get my best friends here?," I asked into his chest as he rubbed my back lightly. "Don't worry about it," he lifted my chin with his index finger before placing a gentle kiss to my lips. I heard my name being called from outside as I turned and faced the girls, watching as they all waved simultaneously. Wes pulled away, offering a small smile, "go have fun." I shyly smiled and kissed his cheek before walking over to my girls.
"Okay, so first of all, when the hell did you get a boyfriend?," Vanessa asked me, giving me a what-the-hell kind of look. I laughed shyly before saying, "just after school ended, but we became really good friends literally a week after we met." They all giggled before Layla said, "he's so sweet. And hot," she added shamelessly with a wink. I laughed before looking down at my hands, playing with my fingers, "I know, he's so nice to me. I don't know what I'd do without him here. I mean, you guys live so far from me, just about 3000 miles, I couldn't go to you for help. Now I have him, and he's always there," I smiled, remembering what he told me earlier. They all chuckled as Taylor stared at me in awe, smiling widely, "that's so cute." Just then, Dakota pointed to Emily who was now walking over to us with Alanna, "and she's with his little brother right?" I nodded just as they sat down in the grass with us, joining the conversation, "hey girls." "Okay I have a question," Layla said, looking back and forth between Emily, Alanna and I. I stared at her, waiting for her to continue. "Have any of you done it yet?," she bit her bottom lip, hoping for some dirty details but unfortunately she wasn't getting any, or at least from me. I eyed my small audience as I shook my head, "no. We've gotten close a few times but something always stops me. I always feel like I'm not ready." Layla just stared at me, "what?" We all laughed as she tried not to, "seriously, I'd be all over that," she pointed towards the door with her thumb as I looked over, seeing Wes, Drew and Keaton all talking together. I laughed as she then pointed to Emily and Alanna, "what about you two?" Emily shook her head as Alanna shyly nodded, covering her face with her hand. "Oh, give us details!," Aubrey urged on. "Okay, okay," Alanna laughed as she continued.

"Dude, her face was priceless," Drew nudged my shoulder with his as I took a sip of the soda that filled my red party cup. "I did good, bro?," I asked, looking over at Jenn, seeing her throw her head back in laughter. I listened closely, hearing her adorable laugh as Drew answered, "good? Wes, you did great. She will never forget this birthday," he admitted as Keaton nodded, agreeing with him. "Man, she's one lucky girl, I've never seen you as the romantic type," Keaton stared at me as I put my free hand in my front pocket, "really? I always pictured myself as the boyfriend that'd do anything for his girl." "Well, you sure as hell are that guy," Keaton laughed as I joined him, placing the cup to my lips and taking another sip. Just then I heard my dad calling me over, "Hey Wes!" I turned and faced him as he motioned for me over with his index finger. "I'll be right back guys," I placed my cup on the nearest table as I walked over to my parents and Lucy. I'm glad my father was able to make it tonight. I've been dying for him to meet Jennifer but with work and all, it's pretty hard for him. He stopped by last month for Keaton's birthday in July but left not even an hour later.
Thankfully mine and Jennifer's parents seemed to be kicking it off pretty well. "She's a pretty girl, Wes. And so is Emily. And for you to do all this for Jenn, she's a really lucky girl," my dad glanced over at Lucy as she smiled brightly, nodding as a thank you. "Thanks dad. I really feel like she's the one, you know? That girl that I'd want to be with forever; that girl I'd never want to let go," I smiled, looking between my parents and Lucy as my dad wrapped his arm around my mothers shoulder, "I know what you mean," he kissed my mothers forehead quickly before saying, "bring her over here. I barely got a chance to say hi before," he laughed at his own comment as I chuckled, "okay hold on."
* Jennifer's POV *
"Woah," Dakota stared at Alanna in shock as she finished her story and we all laughed in unison. Some of the girls here weren't virgins and those girls were Alanna, Layla, Aubrey, and Taylor. Just then, I heard my name being called and we all looked to see Wes wave his hand in his direction. I stood up as the girls snickered and I shushed them, laughing in the process. As I walked over to him, I noticed how cold I was, realizing the temperature surprisingly decreased by a lot. Goosebumps raised upon my skin as I approached Wes and his smile faded, "are you cold?" He ran his hands up and down my arms as I nodded. "Do you want me to get you a sweater?," he asked, furrowing his eyebrows in concern. I nodded again, leaning into his chest. "Okay, but first, my dad wants to meet you again," he laughed as I joined him, nodding, "okay."
Wes guided me into the living room, to where his parents and my mother were talking like they've known each other for years. "Well hello there," Wesley's father, Bill, embraced me in a tight hug, "and happy birthday." I laughed, "thank you Bill." "You're welcome sweetheart," he smiled as I hugged Wes' mother Lorraine. "Hi sweetie," she smiled, rocking our bodies side to side. I've met her before, and she's always so sweet to me, "hey Lorraine." "Happy birthday beautiful," she said as she grabbed my hair, pulling strands over my shoulder. "Thank you," I giggled as I couldn't help but smile. I looked over at my mom as she opened her arms, "hi baby." I hugged her tightly, feeling my throat tighten. This was the first time in a long time I've felt comfortable and safe in her arms; it actually felt like a motherly embrace to me. I squeezed her tighter, burying my face into her neck. "My baby isn't a baby anymore," she sniffled as I nodded, pulling away, "come on now, let's not get emotional," I chuckled, wiping away any tears that escaped my eyes. She laughed at my comment, staring at me as her bottom lip quivered, attempting to hold back any tears. I leaned in and kissed her cheek before whispering, "thank you for being here mom." She smiled and hugged me once more before Wes and I walked into the dining room, which was where we all had sang happy birthday to me.
