* Next morning *

I looked over at my sister who was still sleeping for as long as the accident. The doctors had said she wasn't in a coma, but a very heavy sleep, one that she'd come out of by at least tonight. I hoped so, because I could never live without my sister. My mom was passed out in the chair across from us as Keaton still sat beside Emily. Wes ran downstairs to get us all something to eat and I casually played with the cast on my finger. I occasionally had sharp pains in my rib, because of a slight crack in one of my bones. The doctors said it'd heal in no time, but that I needed to lay down and rest. I pushed myself upwards so I was sitting up straight, and Keaton looked up at me, "how're you feeling?" I shrugged my shoulders, facing the palms of my hand towards the ceiling, " I've been better." He chuckled slightly before answering, "I could say the same." He looked over towards Emily before entwining his fingers with her delicate ones. I watched them before smiling slightly to myself. "You're a great guy, Keaton. I'm glad my sister found you; she's never been happier," I smiled at him as he offered one back, "thanks Jenn." I nodded once before Wes strolled back in with a black plastic bag. "I got water and fruit. Is that alright for now?," he asked hopeful as I laughed at him and nodded, "thanks babe." He leaned down and quickly pecked my lips before sitting down at the end of my bed, facing diagonal.

He pulled out 5 bottles of water and a few apples, bananas and granola bars. He placed one of the waters on the table between mine and Emily's bed for when she woke up, and I smiled at him in appreciation. He handed me a water, then Keaton, and saved one for my mom. I grabbed a banana, peeling the sides before taking a bite. My mother stirred around on the couch before yawning and meeting her gaze with ours. "Good morning," she whispered groggily, stretching her arms out and yawning once again. "I got you a water and some fruit," Wes held up the bottle as she eyed the display of fruit upon my bed. "Thank you honey," she smiled appreciatively before grabbing the water and an apple. We all sat in silence, with no sound other than the steady beating of the heart monitor.

"Hey dad," I smiled, happy that I finally had some time to talk with him alone. He smiled back at me, pulling up a chair so he was sitting directly beside me. "So, how's school?," he asked awkwardly, attempting to spark up a conversation, although school doesn't start for another few weeks.

"Schools pretty good, I like it here in California a lot better than New York," I admitted, faded memories of my darkest times flashing through my mind. He nodded, "how about your grades and everything?" I looked down at my hands, "I do pretty well in my classes, but my worst class is history," I laughed as he smiled, "I didn't do well in history either, I always found it boring." "Me too, never did like it much," I sighed before he continued, "so what grade are you going into?" "I'm going to be a senior this year, as well as Wes," he nodded until I mentioned Wes' name, then his jaw tensed and his eyes narrowed. "How long have you two been dating?," he questioned, suddenly curious about our relationship. "3 months," I said, my voice hard. "Why?" He shrugged and began to play with his fingers, "I don't know, he just seems cocky." I raised my eyebrows, completely taken back from his answer, "cocky? Are you serious? Wesley and Keaton are both the sweetest people you'll ever meet," I raised my voice, coming to their defenses. He scoffed at me, looking away, "Keaton's alright, but Wesley, he seems like an arrogant person." I just stared at him, at loss for words. The fact that this man who's never even spoken a word to my boyfriend and is already judging him, sickened me. "He's going to hurt you Jenn," he said and I gave him a disgusted look. "You don't know what you're talking about," I spat, leaning towards him. He shrugged his shoulders, giving me a hard look, "I'm telling you, he's going to hurt you one way or another. You should never trust-" "Shut up!," I yelled at him before my mom came running in, "what's going on?" Neither of us spoke, but as my dad got up to walk away, he turned around and looked at me, "don't tell me I didn't warn you."
