* Next Morning *
I stabbed the fork into the plate of scrambled eggs as my thumb glided along the screen of my phone. I texted Wes earlier this morning but he never replied. I decided to text him again, I thought maybe he was busy. I filled my mouth with the last bit of eggs before placing my phone on the table and gingerly grabbing the plate. I placed it in the sink, running the water upon it to clear it off. I turned off the water, carelessly drying my hands with the kitchen towel before stepping back over to my phone. Both messages still said 'Delivered'. Maybe he overslept? I looked over at the time and realized it was 12:56. I furrowed my eyebrows; he never sleeps this late. I shrugged my shoulders, clicking the lock button before strolling upstairs. I knocked on my sisters door as I heard her small voice grant me access. I stepped inside, seeing her rummaging through her clothes. "Hey I think I'm gonna run and get Starbucks, do you want anything?," I leaned against the door lazily, listening for her response. She paused her actions before turning to face me, "uh, yeah, but hold on, let me come with you." She grabbed the pair of shorts she was searching for before she began to get undressed. "I was actually gonna stop by Wes' house also to see if he's okay, he hasn't been answering my texts," I nonchalantly checked my phone; no new messages. Her vision quickly locked with mine as she immediately answered, "oh stop it, he's fine. You can be without him for one day," she laughed as she pulled her shorts up her long legs. I guess she had a point. I literally haven't left Wesley's side since he asked me out and I could use a break; although, quite frankly I didn't want one. "Okay, be ready in 15 minutes," I agreed before stepping into my room. I quickly changed into high-waisted blue jean shorts and black shear sleeveless top that tied just above my bellybutton. I slipped my feet into one of my several pairs of black toms before grabbing my favorite necklace. I gracefully pulled my head through my necklace chain, turning the chain so where both ends met was in the back of my neck. The pendant was an owl and it reached just below my breasts. I walked into my bathroom and quickly brushed my teeth before quickly touching up my waves. I spritzed my perfume upon my chest and made my way down before placing some on my wrists. I grabbed my phone and checked it once more, disappointingly discovering no new messages. My heart sank as I walked out, noticing Emily standing against the balcony rail, patiently waiting for me. She had on Hollister shorts with a white, button-up, sleeveless top that tied at the bottom and matched it with chocolate brown flip flops. "So, since Wes said he had big plans for you tomorrow," she smiled childishly, "I'm taking you out today, just you and me. And I have a surprise," she winked before flicking her head towards the front door, "come on birthday girl, lets go." I simply chuckled before stepping downstairs. She got her permit a few days ago so I guess she was driving me everywhere today.
I unlocked my phone, tapping the Instagram app and spontaneously began scrolling. My heart jumped when I noticed Keaton's name on the screen and it was a picture of Wes caught off guard. It looked as if he was hanging something but I couldn't make out what it was. I narrowed my eyes, looking at the screen as I tried to look around the background. What was he doing? I just shook my head and locked my phone before looking over at my sister. "So, what's your big surprise?," I tried getting my mind off of Wesley; Emily was right, I could use a day without him. Her vision left the road for a split second to eye me, a smirk visible upon her lips, "you'll see." I giggled, many thoughts running through my mind. What could it be? She came to a stop directly outside of the Starbucks I worked at before Emily sat back and turned her vision towards me, "Starbucks first." She smiled widely, excitement clear upon her expression as she stepped out. I climbed out of the car, inhaling a deep breath of the warm summer air as I walked around our shared car. We stepped inside as Mikey immediately saw us, "hey! Since I won't see you tomorrow, happy birthday," he walked over to me and embraced me as my muffled laugh sounded against his chest. "Thanks Mikey," I smiled as he we followed him back by the counter. Mikey and I have grown close only recently. When I began working here, he was very shy and never said much to me, now he's like a brother to me.
