"Bye baby," my mom kissed my cheek as she quickly stepped out. My sister hurriedly embraced me, smiling, "happy birthday Jenn, and have fun tonight," she pulled away with a wink as I couldn't help but laugh. I waved her out the door as Keaton then walked over to me with his small duffle bag of clothes. He was spending the night at my house with my sister as I decided to stay here with Wes tonight. Keaton wrapped his arm around my back as he squeezed me into him, causing me to lose breath. I began laughing, trying to pull myself from his grip but it only made him squeeze me tighter. "Keaton I can't breathe," I laughed as he released a tiny chuckle, "happy birthday." He waved as he stepped out, following my sister into the car. Drew and Alanna had left just minutes earlier because Alanna's mom was flipping out; apparently she's been out too late. Wesley's parents were spending the next week in Florida and the only closest available plane flight was within the next two hours so they needed to leave quickly to get there on time. "Goodbye lovely, I hope you had a good time, Wes worked hard on making this your best birthday," Lorraine hugged me, laughing slightly as I hugged her equally as tight, "I definitely did. Thank you so much Lorraine." She pulled away, leaning down to grab her suitcase, "anytime beautiful." "Bye sweetheart, it was very nice meeting you," Bill smiled, holding out his arms. "It was so nice meeting you, too," I chuckled, accepting his kind gesture. Everyone had said their goodbyes to Wes before me besides Lorraine. She hugged him tightly, and when I looked over, it seemed like she whispered something to him and when she pulled away, he gave her a small nod. I shrugged it off, giving Bill a friendly smile. As they rushed out the door, I called out, "have fun on your trip!" Lorraine turned around and smiled as a thank you and I watched them waddle into the taxi. Now it was time to say goodbye to my best friends, and I feel like they are going to be the hardest goodbye of all.
I didn't want to let go, but I had to, "I'm gonna miss you girls so much," I sniffled, pulling away from our small group hug. I noticed they were all looking around at each other, smiling slyly, almost as if they were hiding something. Then, Aubrey grabbed my hands, turning me to face her, "Jenn, there's something we have to tell you." I offered her a crooked smile as a way to tell her to continue. She stole one last quick look at the girls before looking at me, "we're spending the next few days here in Cali, we're leaving next week." Before she could even finish, I began squealing, squeezing her hands impossibly tighter, "are you serious?" She smiled again and nodded as my cheeks began to ache from smiling so much. I pulled them all into a group hug once again before I heard a car pull up outside. I turned my head, revealing a second taxi, which was probably the taxi the girls were going in back to the hotel they were spending their next few nights. "Okay, I love you babe, and happy birthday," Aubrey kissed my cheek before running out with the others. I watched them with a small smile and waved just as the taxi pulled away. I slowly shut the door before turning around and facing Wes.
He had on a childish smirk, staring at me with his hands in his front pockets. His weight was rested on his right leg as he slowly bit his lip. "I have something else for you," he said, turning his smirk into a smile. Something else? He's done so much for me that I'm super appreciative for, what else could he have gotten? I laughed as he then grabbed my hand and brought me down into his den, where it was hidden from everyone else. My heart melted at the sight in front of me. There was a fire glowing in the fireplace and a blanket with pillows lying on the rug-covered floor before it. There were two glasses and a bottle of wine beside it, held in a bucket full of ice. I faced Wes and couldn't stop the smile from forming on my face. He grabbed my hand and walked me over to the blanket as I kicked off my sandals. He sat down as I sat down beside him, crossing my legs. The heat radiating from the fire felt unbelievably good, since I've been cold for the past hour and a half. Wes reached back and handled the bottle of wine that I noticed was pre-opened. He poured a little into each glass before handing me one and placing the bottle back where it was. I took a sip, my face contorting from the strength of the taste. I heard Wes chuckle slightly as I nudged his shoulder with my opposite hand, laughing as well. I placed the glass on the table to my right as he then began playing with his fingers. "Jenn," he started before taking my small hands in his. I leaned forward, encouraging him to continue, "yes?" He took a small breath before he spoke, "I don't want to sound too cheesy or cliche..." I laughed at his comment before he released one of my hands to reach into his back pocket. My heart began to thump against my chest as I discovered the little black box he held in his hand. My eyes widened and my jaw dropped just the tiniest bit. "But from the moment I saw you in the hallway, I knew you'd be mine. Everything about you is absolutely stunning: you're beautiful, you're smart, you're talented, you have a perfect body, you're adorably shy," his voice trailed off as he stole a glance at the box in his hand before looking back up at me. My mouth was agape as I found it harder and harder to breathe. He released my other hand and slowly began opening the box. I gasped lowly, flinging my hands to my mouth. The pendant was a key and the light from the fire glistened off the diamonds that covered it. In the center of it, there was a tiny heart that flowed into the shape of the key, adding on to the breathtaking item. It was insanely beautiful and I couldn't keep my eyes off of it. "Jenn, you have the key to my heart and I will always make sure you're my number one priority. I'll always put you first before anything, no matter what. From the moment you walked into my life, I've never been a happier person. I can't even imagine my life without you now; you're my everything. I-I get these feelings that are so unexplainable when I'm around you; feelings I never knew existed." Tears fell from my eyes the hardest at this point because I knew the feelings he was talking about. I dropped my head, covering my face with my hands; I've never experienced those feelings until I met him. I heard him gently place the box upon the table before I felt his hands slowly grab my wrists. He pulled my hands from my face before putting his arms around my back. He pulled me into his lap and I hugged him tightly, burying my face in the curvature of his shoulder. "I didn't think it was possible to have someone like you in my life," he continued, "honestly, sometimes I feel like I'm dreaming," he laughed just a little. "Jenn," he pushed my body away so he could look at me. He cupped my face, wiping away my tears with his thumbs. His mouth opened as he stared so deeply into my eyes, "I love you."
