* July 4th , Jennifer's POV *
"Hey babygirl," Wes smiled as he embraced me, placing a quick kiss on my lips. "You look cute," he whispered, slipping his hands in the back pockets of my white jeans. I simply smiled, leaning up to kiss him again. "Hey girls!," I heard a familiar angelic voice call. I looked past Wesley to see Laraine, Wesley's mother waving at Emily and I. Wesley's family was throwing a party for the Fourth of July and invited my mom, my sister and I. My mom walked up to Laraine as they embraced each other as if they've known each other for years. It was a relief knowing that our parents got along, it made it easier to work our relationships. "I'll be right back," I tapped Wes' chest affectionately before walking over to Laraine, my arms spread open. "Hello beautiful!," she exclaimed, wrapping her arms around me tightly. "How are you?," she asked, gently gripping my arms. "I'm fine, thank you," I offered a friendly grin before she moved on to my sister, repeating the familiar greeting. She seemed like a bundle of happiness, almost like the mother I wish mine was. I envied Wes, for that reason exactly. He had a father and a mother, both who loved their children, and I only had a mother who I barely even see half the time. Wesley's father, Bill couldn't make it tonight because of his business trip he was on and he was usually the person who barbecued when necessary but instead, Wes and Keaton's uncle Robert filled in for him. I've never met anyone else in Wesley's family besides his mother and quite frankly, I was nervous. I was never well with meeting new people, unlike my sister who wouldn't mind meeting anybody. Keaton came up behind my sister and entwined his fingers with hers, leading her to where everyone was and began introducing her to who I believe was their grandparents. I turned around to see Wes standing in the same spot where I left him, patiently waiting for me. He had a smirk painted across his face with his arms crossed and I began to make my way to him, observing his outfit. He was wearing dark blue jeans and a white t-shirt, also wearing a silver and blue Yums SnapBack. The t-shirt hugged his torso nicely, slightly showing the raised muscles in his stomach underneath it. His skin was tanned from the California sun and he almost looked Godly. He looked beautiful, I was lost in admiration as I stared at him and his arm snaked around my back in a side hug as he began leading me where his family was, repeating the actions I watched Keaton perform just moments earlier.
"You have your bathing suit right?," Alanna asked she led my sister and I up the stairs and into the guest room to change. "Yeah," I mumbled, closing the door behind me. I opened the plastic bag that contained mine and my sisters bikinis, grabbing my lavender purple top before quickly removing my red tanktop. I turned around, reaching my hands behind my back and expertly unclasping my bra, quickly covering my exposed breasts with my top. I heard Emily and Alanna chatting behind me before I turned around and grabbed my bottoms. "Oh, that's a really pretty color," Alanna gasped, observing the shade of purple. "Thank you," I smiled before unbuckling my belt. I slipped my jeans down my legs, bringing my thong along with them and shyly slipped my legs through the holes of my bottoms. I tossed my clothes into the plastic bag that once held our bathing suits before I looked at myself in the long, body mirror and turned my torso halfway around, checking myself out. The bottoms were slightly small and only had a connected string at the sides, but I shrugged it off. I walked over and sat on the bed, subconsciously inviting myself into their conversation. "He's bringing me to a surprise restaurant for our two year anniversary," Alanna giggled, tying the strings at the sides of her bottoms. "Awe, really? That's so cute! When is the date?," Emily asked, throwing her clothes in the plastic bag, joining them with my own. "July 7th," she giggled again, pulling the hair tie from the bun she held her hair in. "That's sweet, congratulations," I slightly laughed, joining in on her excitement as I examined her bikini. It was black and had realistic red roses printed into the fabric. "I might just have to steal your bikini sometime," I admitted in admiration, hearing her chuckle, "thanks babe, but only if I can steal yours first." I shrugged, "why not?" We shared a small chuckle before stepping through the door. I followed my sister down the stairs and out the screen door into the backyard. "Hey! There they are," Drew threw his left hand in the air, the right occupied with a Red Solo Cup. He was wearing a black bathing suit, the stitching made with white string. Keaton had on a plain white bathing suit as Wes wore a black and red bathing suit. I then remembered I left my phone upstairs so I looked over at Alanna and my sister, "I left my phone on the bed, I'll be right back." I jogged back inside and up the stairs, seeing my phone laying unscathed on the comforter. I grabbed it, rushing back downstairs. As I walked out, I looked over at the large underground pool, noticing a few of Wes and Keaton's younger cousins in the water. There was 5 guys and 2 girls, all around 13 or 14 years of age. I met them all earlier but I already forgot their names; I have horrible memory. I looked over at Wes who was slowly approaching me, casually looking around at everyone sitting at the tables behind me. I heard the slight chatter flooding the air behind me as I quickly checked the time before placing my phone down on the table by the back door. "What're you doing babygirl?," Wes asked, gripping my hand with his own and leading me towards the others. I shook my head, taking a deep breath, inhaling the summer air, "nothing." "Okay, we're all going to jump in together, yeah?," Alanna exclaimed excitedly as I laughed, nodding. She had a very contagious way about her and that's one of her traits I like about her most. She was fun to be around and I regret not asking her to hang out with me more. Oh well. "Okay, let's all grab each others hand," she started a chain, grabbing mine and Drew's hand as I grabbed Wes'. Wesley was at one end of the chain as Emily ended it on the opposing side. "1...2...3!" We all ran towards the pool, the adrenaline pumping through me. I jumped along with everyone else, some of us screaming, some of us quietly enjoying the fun. We all became submerged in the cool water as I released Alanna's hand, but never releasing Wes'. I swam up the water, Wes by my side. I wasn't a very good swimmer, and I had no idea the water was this deep, and I began to slightly panic. Our heads rose above the water as I immediately gripped Wesley's biceps, molding my body to his, "why didn't you tell me the water was this deep?" He tightly wrapped his arms around my back, continuously kicking his feet to stay above the water, "I'm sorry babygirl, I thought you knew. But this pool gradually gets lower," he kissed my shoulder as I straddled his waist, locking my ankles together and pulling my torso away from him to see his face. "Over there it's 4 and a half feet," he pointed to the left of us as the nerves in my stomach eased slightly. "Are you okay?," he asked concerned. I quickly nodded, inhaling a deep breath and looked down between us at the water, "just don't let me go." He nodded, instructing me to get on his back so he can swim easier. He floated us over to the others as I jumped off his back, feeling the bottom of the pool with my feet. "You're okay?," Wes assured, gliding his hands up and down my arms comfortingly. A small smile spread across my lips as I nodded once, "thanks babe."
