Chapter Twenty Seven - Illnesses Kill More You Think.

Koji's POV

"Everyone! Report to the garden in ten minutes. If you're late, I'll whip you. Thank you!" That evil woman shouted at us all.

Everyone of us bolted towards the outdoors, wanting to get to the Garden as soon as possible.

I was probably the only one who walked, we had ten minutes! These kids were crazy. Can't blame them though, being abused might make them like that.

Finally we all arrived, and the mistress herself was beside a young boy. Black hair, Black eyes. He had a blank expression, he didn't seem to care.

"This is Sora. He's a new sla--... worker. Treat him nice, and.... I don't care who! Just tell him what happens when you disobey me." The evil woman didn't say anything else, she just walked back inside.

Sora shrugged and walked over to the crowd, hands in his pocket. He didn't say anything, he just looked at everyone.

Then he looked at me, he stared right at me. "You. Show me what to do." He spat out, walking closer to me.

"Oh. Okay...!" I didn't understand why he picked me but I didn't mind showing him around.

"Uh. You can help me I guess, I don't need it. But whatever... So I usually clean the kitchen and cook food. So uh, follow me" I told him, he shrugged. 

"Oh my gosh, Sora. You are so chill." I said, as we walked. Almost at the kitchen

"Should I not be? I'm actually pretty happy right now." He smiled, putting his hands on his head.

"Oh? Why? You're at the work fields. Most newbies cry and cry for days."

"Oh? I couldn't cry if I wanted tooooo!~ You see..." He leaned in and whispered in my ear "I got engaged a few days ago."

He whistled, walking right into the kitchen like he knew where it was.

"Whhhhaaat?! How old are you exactly!?"

"Twelve!" He stuck out his tongue, in a playful way.

"Who's the girl? Why are you here and not with her?!" I drowned him in questions, absolutely confused with this guy.

"I'll tell you all about my past. But, we'd have to be best friends." He smiled, laughing.

I rolled my eyes and laughed also.

And we did. We did become best friends. Everything we did was together, work, play, rest, even get beaten.

Except... Sora got abused more then me, I'd be there. Making sure this devil of a woman wouldn't kill him.

But he always smiled it off, telling me it was "worth it".

But one day... as we were picking food from the garden. Sora fainted.

He had a high fever, but this devil wouldn't call a doctor. She didn't do anything to help him.

He ended up having a severe illness, to this day I have no idea what it was.

But that last night, the night when he closed his eyes forever. He whispered to me, smiling like always.

"Koji... Do me a favor... Escape this place. I want you... I know, this is selfish. But... I want you to join Blade, it's the league Lily always wanted to Join. Join it, and wait. Wait for Lily. You'll know her when you see her. She has the most beautiful black hair, and the brightest red eyes. S-She's half fox..! P-pretend to b-be me! Pretend you're me! Marry her, start a family... Please Koji!" He was sobbing, sobbing so hard I started crying. "Keep her happy... I-I'm young. I know I am. But I love her.... I really... do... please... make her... happy...! G-geh... Koji!... Yo-You're my best friend... forever... k..? haha..." Then he closed his eyes. Not breathing.

"S-Sora...? No... You can't.. be dead! PLEASE! PLEASE NO, I CAN'T MAKE LILY HAPPY. SHE NEEDS YOU, PLEASE. GOD NO... SORA..!" I screamed, holding his hand. "Y-You're a brother to me... please..."

No matter how much I begged, he didn't open his eyes. His body grew cold.

That same night, I was the one who bury him. I got some of the other kids to help me.

And that night Sora died... I escaped. Because I was going to grant his final wish.

"And... that's what happened...." I finished the story, looking at Lily with big eyes.

"H-he wanted... me to be... happy...?"

I nodded. Blushing, "I.. actually... did fall in love with you..." I whispered, but I don't think she heard me.

Because she dropped to her knees in front of the grave. "Sora... I finally got to... see you again.... in a way... haha...."

She then started crying again, the tears making the soil moist around her. "Sora... You're so kind... Also... so kind..."

I sniffled again, patting Lily's head as she cried. "Sooorrraa! NOO! Why?! Why did you have to die!? Its not fair! NOT FAIR!"

I didn't say a word, but soon Chester and Alex came out looking for us.

Because for some reason, neither of us realized it was morning.
