"Hey Greenie!" A young boy's voice said cheerfully.
I looked up to see the chubby face of a young boy, probably no older than thirteen. "Hi, I'm Addison," I said.
"My name's Chuck," the boy said.
I smiled at him. I liked Chuck. He was so cheerful.
"Newt asked me to show you to your room," Chuck explained. "Follow me."
I followed Chuck through the grassy "Glade" as Alby had called it. A few boys smiled or waved as we passed by. We walked up to a wooden building.
"This is the Homestead," Chuck said. "I think the Builders will build you your own room soon, but for now, you'll share a room with Newt."
I looked at the ground and smiled. I was happy that I would be sharing a room with Newt. Besides Chuck, I felt that Newt was someone that I could trust.
Chuck showed me Newt's room. "You hungry?" He asked.
I nodded my head eagerly. "I thought you'd never ask!"
Chuck led me to the kitchen where the other boys were already getting their food. Chuck and I walked up to them and got in line. In front of me was Newt.
He turned around. "Hello, love," he said in his beautiful accent. "Did Chuck show you were you would be sleeping?"
I nodded.
Newt smiled. "I hope you don't mind sharing a room with me for a while."
"Oh no, not at all," I said and immediately ducked my head to let my hair cover my face so he wouldn't see me blush.
"Addison, this is Frypan," I looked up when I heard Newt's voice. I looked at the cook. He smiled and I smiled back.
"Nice to meet you, Addison," he said, handing me a plate of food.
"Nice to meet you too," I said, accepting the plate.
"Come with me," Newt said, touching my shoulder, sending shivers down my spine and I loved it.
I gladly followed Newt to a table where two boys were sitting.
"Hey Greenie!" An Asian boy called out to me. I sat down across from him and Newt sat next to me.
"My name is Addison," I said, rolling my eyes. That nickname was starting to get on my nerves.
"Okay then, Addison," the boy said. "I'm Minho."
"Minho?"
"That's my name, don't wear it out," he smirked.
"Hi Addison," the other boy said. "I'm Ben."
"Hi Ben," I said.
"How come he gets a hi and I get a 'Minho?'"
"Cuz," I replied simply before taking a bite of the food in front of me.
"So what do you guys do in this 'Glade'?"
"Well," Minho sighed. "Nothing much. Newt is second in command and Ben and I are Runners."
I raised an eyebrow at Newt. "So you're pretty important, huh?" I asked, a smile forming on my lips for some unknown reason.
"Heh, not really, I mean, I don't-"
"Yeah Newtie here is important," Minho said, laughing.
"What are Runners?" I asked.
At that time, the kid with the eyebrows, Gally, I think that's his name, passed by. He stopped in front of me and pointed at my feet. "More importantly, what are thoooose?!" He asked before laughing hysterically.
All the other boys started laughing and I looked down at my feet. I didn't see anything unusual. I had on pink converse. "Shoes, you idiot!" I shouted at him.
Minho, Ben, Newt, and Gally didn't seem to have heard me because they continued laughing. Finally, they all calmed down and Gally left to go eat with the other Builders.
"Are you guys done yet?" I asked.
Newt and Ben were finally completely calm but Minho looked like he was still holding back a laugh. After a few moments, he finally nodded.
I rolled my eyes.
"Gally must really like you, Greenie," Ben commented. "He never makes jokes like that."
"Well he sure is annoying," I said. "But he does seem friendly."
The three boys burst out laughing again.
"What? I wasn't being funny!"
"We know," Newt stopped laughing. "It's just that, Gally is not friendly. And no one has ever had the nerve to call him annoying."
"Oh really?"
"Yeah," Minho said. "More like the Glade bully."
"Hmm, that's interesting," I said before turning back to my food.
Minho and Ben finished their dinner and went off to go to their rooms or shower, leaving me alone with Newt.
We talked as we walked back to the Homestead. Newt was so nice and friendly. He seemed to understand me. He was someone that I would gladly call my friend. And in a place like the Glade, it doesn't hurt to have a few friends. People that you could really trust.
Newt let me sleep in his bed while he slept in a sleeping bag on the floor. That was very generous of him, considering the fact that the floor of his room did not look very comfy.
He fell asleep right away but I sat up and studied him. He looked so peaceful when he was sleeping. His lips slightly parted and his blonde hair messy yet still so perfect. His chest rose and fell steadily. He was perfect.
"Checking me out, are you?" Newt's voice startled me.
"Yes! No! I-uh, er, sorry..."
"I could feel you staring at me," Newt smirked.
I felt my face turn bright red. He laughed. "I know I'm sexy, but you should go to sleep."
I didn't know what to say. I just continued staring at him with my mouth slightly open.
"Hey I was being sarcastic, love," he said. "I'm not stuck up, but I did feel you staring at me."
He winked at me, making me blush even more. If that was even possible.
"Now seriously, love," he looked me in the eye. "Go to sleep. If you don't, you'll regret it tomorrow."
I nodded. "Good night," I whispered. I didn't think he heard me until he whispered back.
"Good night, Addison."
