Be Mine

Chapter 12

   I woke with a start. Was that a flashback or a dream? It seemed so real.
   "Are you okay?"
   I whipped my head toward the sound of the voice. I glared in his direction. "What are you doing here?"
   "I want to talk to you," Newt said.
   "Yeah well it's my room and you have no permission to be here," I said. "How long have you been here, anyway?"
   "Only about two minutes," Newt said.
   "Only?" I rolled my eyes. "You know, it's kind of creepy to wake up to someone watching you sleep."
   Newt laughed. "Well, I was waiting outside your room until you started muttering and thrashing around on your bed. You're quite a noisy sleeper."
   I felt my cheeks burn red.
   "Anyway, I just wanted to say that I'm sorry about everything. But please try to understand that you can't be a Runner. You can be anything else instead," Newt said.
   I was mad again. "Why can't I be a Runner?!"
   "You just can't, okay?" Newt said firmly, although I could see, was it fear in his eyes?
   "Why not?" I demanded.
   "Because I lo-"
   "Are you guys ever going to come to breakfast?" Minho interrupted.
   "Shuck, Minho!" I said. "What are you even doing here?"
   "Trying to calm you guys down! You've practically woken up the whole Glade with your yelling!"
   "Then why are you yelling, Minho?" Newt asked.
   "I don't know. It just felt like the right thing to do," Minho smirked.
   Newt shook his head. "Get out."
   "Okay, but I'm taking Addi with me," Minho grabbed my arm and pulled me out of my room. Not wanting to talk to Newt anymore, I gladly left.
