I woke up with a start. Was that a crazy dream or a flash back? Was that really something that happened to me? Was that the reason why I had no memories? And who were Teresa and Thomas? Were they my friends before I came to the Glade? And Teresa had mentioned Newt. Was it possible that I knew Newt before coming here? Was Newt my friend before he was sent to the Maze? Did he remember me?
"Good morning, love," Newt walked up to the Slammer door. "You're up early."
"Yeah," I debated whether or not to tell him about my dream. I decided not to.
   "You ready to come out?"
   "Hell yeah!"
Newt laughed and unlocked the door. I jumped out of the Slammer and onto the grass.
"So I get to be a Track-Hoe today?" I asked.
   "Yup," Newt answered.
"Yay, I was so bored in the Slammer."
"I bet," Newt said. "Come on, let's go get breakfast."
We walked to the kitchen and saw Minho talking to Frypan.
"Come on," Minho pleaded. "Just one more strip of bacon."
"For the hundredth time, Minho," Frypan rolled his eyes. "No. More. Bacon."
   "Pleeeeeeaaaaaaaaassseeeee," Minho pleaded.
"No," Frypan said. "Don't you have running to do?"
"Oh shuck," Minho muttered, picking up his plate and hurrying to find a table.
I giggled and greeted Frypan. "Good morning, Frypan," I smiled at him.
"Morning, Addi," Frypan said. "Morning, Newt."
   "Good morning, Fry," Newt replied.
Once I got my plate, I followed Newt over to the table where Minho was.
"Did you get an extra bacon?" Minho asked me.
I looked down at my plate and shook my head.
"Okay," Minho sighed. "Are you going to eat your bacon?"
"Yes, Minho, I am," I said slowly so he could easily comprehend what I just said.
"Well it was worth a shot," Minho laughed. He was just finishing up and when he did, he stood and waved bye. "Well, I gotta go."
"Bye, Minho," I said. "See ya later."
"Alligator," Minho replied. "Bye shuck-face." He added, looking at Newt.
Newt rolled his eyes. "Bye, slinthead. Be careful, don't die."
"Hey that's my line!" Minho whined.

   "So what do I do?"
"For goodness sake, Addison, I just told you!" Zart groaned. "All I want you to do is pull these shuck weeds and put them in this basket. It's not that hard."
   "Okay, okay," I said.
"Got it?" Zart raised an eyebrow.
   "Yes," I reassured him.
   "Good that."
With that, he left. I watched him as he walked away and then looked past him to see Newt working in the fields. He looked hot. Literally.
The sun was shining and he was working so hard that he was sweating. He did look good, though. He ran his fingers through his hair. He did that so perfectly. He had taken off his jacket and was wearing a shirt that clung tightly to his body because of his sweat.
"Hey!" Zart's voice snapped me out of my daze. I looked away from Newt to see Zart walking back toward me. "Addison, I know Newt must look shucking sexy right now, but I really need you to stop day dreaming and start working."
"Okay Zart," I said, looking him in the eye. "I'm sorry, I'll get started pulling these weeds."
   Zart nodded. "Good that."
I started pulling weeds from then ground and putting them in the basket Zart had given me. It was a very dull job, but I didn't want to get in too much trouble today, considering the fact that I had just finished my punishment of a night in the Slammer. I did not want to be put back in there anytime soon, especially for some stupid reason like not doing my job.
Two hours had passed and I had just started wondering how many weeds could possibly be in the fields when Zart came over to me.
"Addison, you can stop that now. I think you've gotten all the weeds by now."
I stood up immediately and stretched my back. I did not think gardening was for me.
"Now I need you to take this basket and go get some fertilizer."
"Okay but where do I get-"
"Oh yeah and Newt will go with you," Zart added.
   "Okey dokey."
Zart left and I saw Newt heading toward me.
"Hello, love," he said, smiling at me.
"Hey, Newt," I said. I was happy to see him, well up close, I'd been glancing at him all day.
"We're going to the forest part of the Glade," Newt said excitedly.
   "Oh joy," I said sarcastically.
   "What?"
"Nothing," I grinned but on the inside, guilt flooded over me. I thought of just yesterday when Newt had taken me to the edge of the Deadheads and I had run away from him.
"So," Newt said as we walked toward the Deadheads.
   "So," I repeated.
   "How's being a Track-Hoe?"
"Well," I didn't want to disappoint Newt since he was a Track-Hoe, but I decided to be honest. "I don't really think it's the job for me."
"That's understandable," Newt said simply. "What job do you fancy?"
Runner. That's all I wanted to be. I don't know why, but something in the back of my mind was telling me that I was meant to be a Runner. "Maybe a Med-Jack?"
Med-Jack? Med-Jack!? What the hell is wrong with you, Addison? I mentally screamed at myself.
"That could be arranged," Newt said. "But you'll still have to try other jobs."
I faked a smile. "Okay, thanks Newt."
   "No problem, love."

The rest of the day passed quickly. Newt and I talked and laughed a lot. I really liked being around him. He looked so cute when he laughed.
We sat side by side at dinner and Minho and Ben sat across from us. Gally hadn't made eye contact with me since yesterday. However, during dinner, he sat at a table close to mine and I could feel him staring at me. Every time I looked at him, he quickly looked away.
Newt and I walked to our room. I looked at him and he looked at me and smiled. He seemed so happy. I smiled back as Newt shut the door to the room.
I sat on the bed and Newt sat next to me.
"I have good news for you," Newt said.
"The Builders are almost done building your room."
"Cool!" I said. I was mostly happy, but I was a bit sad that I wouldn't be sharing a room with Newt anymore. I liked having him near me. He was good company and his presence made me feel safe in this crazy new world I was now forced to call my home. This crazy new world called the Glade.
But Newt's probably happy to have his bed back, I thought. I told him so.
He laughed. "Yeah it would be nice to not have to sleep on this shuck floor. It's shucking uncomfortable, but I'll miss you."
I was surprised that he said he'd miss me. "I'll miss you too."
   "Hey Addison?"
   "Yeah?"
"I had a lot of fun talking to you today," Newt said, not looking at me.
I smiled. "I had fun talking to you too."
"Too bad you don't care much for being a Track-Hoe. We could have done that more often," Newt said.
"Yeah," I started to feel bad. But I knew that I had to be a Runner. "But we can still hang out, right?"
"Of course," Newt said. "Well, we should go to sleep."
   "Yeah."
Newt lay down in his sleeping bag and I scooted to one side of the bed. "Newt?"
   "Yes, love?"
"Keep me company in bed?" I asked.
Newt looked surprised but he still nodded his head almost right away. "Okay."
He climbed into bed next to me. "You okay with me here?" He asked.
"Yeah," I said. "I like you, Newt."
Newt's eyes widened but then he smiled. "I like you too, Addison."
I scooted closer to Newt and his arm came around me. "Good night, love."
   "Good night, Newt."
