Chapter 16

Stepping out from the tiny boat Caspian sent us out in, I looked at the scenery. For the most part there were a lot of sand everywhere. I could see trees off in the distance but not many were around. It was almost like a desert and yet it wasn't.

Caspian led us to the right direction and we walked till the sky turned orange. I wouldn't say the walk was pleasant because it was hot, with rays of heat aiming down at us.

"Oh Gruff! Why did my own buddy leave me!" complained Rowley.

"It's alright, I'm sure he'll be back soon." said Lucy gently patting him in comfort.

"B-but I need Gruff, what if I do something wrong?"

"That's alright you learn from mistakes. So it isn't much of a problem. We're all here for you." She smiled kindly at him.

I smiled softly and looked away. That's right I should learn from my mistakes no matter what it is. Sighing I walked on.

"Charlotte."

I turned at the sound of my name only to find Caspian beside me.

"Oh, hi there?"

"So how have things been going lately?"

"What things?"

"Oh, you know..." he looked at me and smirked.

I frowned. "You came here to talk to me about that?"

"What else is there, it gets boring sometimes."

"Caspian, don't you understand the gravity of the situation right now? We should be serious."

"I know better than anyone how serious this is, after all I am the ruling King."

"So are Peter, and Edmund." I stated.

He thought quietly for a second. "You're right, but I have been ruling far longer than they have and kept things in order while they were gone."

"I'm sorry, who am I to question you. I'm the newest one here! And I'm barely a peasant, knight, let alone a queen. It's just that a lot has been going on lately. I don't know how to deal with things right now."

"Funny, I thought I should be the one to say that."

Wiping the sweat from my forehead I said, "You're not the only one...What's wrong Caspian?" I asked noticing a dark look on his face.

"Susan knows now doesn't she?"

Sighing I nodded.

Caspian looked ahead with a weak smile. Obviously trying to cover up his sadness. "Well I guess it's for the best isn't it?"

I frowned. Why is Caspian being so sad over this? He should be over Susan by now? It's been five years and he has already found a suitable wife. Breaking off the engagement is not an option. Besides, Caspian must man up! I'm surprised he could rule such a large Kingdom when he can't even handle women problems!

"King Caspian." I commanded.

Surprised, Caspian looked at me. I never really called Caspian, King Caspian unless I was teasing him, but this time I was serious. How was I supposed to know if he can concentrate on the problem at hand if his mind is filled with thoughts of Susan and Lilliandil?
