THE NEXT ADVENTURE: CHAPTER TWELVE
It was the morning after last night. Robin had showed me my bedroom with a bed much like Peter's and I was now waking up. Getting up, I walked out into the main room. Everyone sat around the table eating and talking on except Peter. Tink then flew towards me. "Can you take Peter his food, Wendy?" she asked flying over to a plate that was sitting on a separate table.
"Okay," I said and took the food. Walking to Peter's room, I entered cautiously. Laying flat on his stomach with his hand up by his face, Peter slept. The blanket half way up his shirt protected back, I crept closer to him and placed his food down on a nearby table quietly. The sun shining on Peter, I looked a moment before turning away.Meeting the doorway, I nearly exited when I suddenly heard Peter's voice. "Wendy?" Looking back at him, I smiled as he opened his eyes. I quickly met his side.
"Good morning, Peter," I said placing my hands on my lap. "I left some food for you," I said once more pointing to the plate I set down. He then began to sit up. Taking a hold of the food, he began to eat.
"Thanks," he said. I smiled again.
"I see you're wearing some new clothes," I said eyeing his white button up shirt and brown pantaloons.
"Yeah, Tink gave them to me this morning," he responded finishing his oranges.
"Surly she must've given you your medicine then?" I questioned.
"Nope," Peter started, grabbing a flower with purple liquid inside. Handing it to me, I took it with confusion. "I told her I wanted you to give it to me," he finished.
"Well, okay..." I said still a little unsure. All Peter had to do was drink the medicine, it was already poured. Peter sitting up straight now, he had both of his hands in his lap and waited. With his head, he urged me to hand over the flower. I looked down upon the liquid once more then handed it back over to Peter.I watched as he swallowed it whole. His nose then scrunched up in disgust.
"Yuck," he said with a shiver. I smiled a little. Taking a moment to get rid of the taste in his mouth--I assumed--he then looked back up at me with a smile. "Mind getting me some water, Wendy?" I nodded and stood up. Leaving the room, I saw the lost boys still eating and talking loudly. Searching for Tink, I found her and approached her.
"Peter would like some water," I said. She smiled at me then flew over to a wooden bowl. Following her, I found it the bowl was empty.
"Oh, seems to be empty," she said with a frown. "Mind heading down to the creek, Wendy?" she asked.
"Sure," I responded, picking up the bowl and heading out of the tree house.Meeting the ground after stepping off the last step of the stairway now, I headed back to the creek I went to last night. After a little while, I was now bending over to fill the bowl with water. Instantly, water came rushing in and over the wooden bowl. I felt it grow a little heavy and held it with both hands. When enough was enough, I stood up and turned around. My eyes instantly found Robin up in a nearby tree. He had war paint covering his face and held a bow and arrow. His camouflage made it nearly impossible to notice him but surprisingly, I managed. He looked focused as if he were eyeing something from a far.
After returning back to the tree house with the water, I had given Peter some and left him to rest. Now heading back to Robin's hunting place, I saw him still in the position I left him but this time, he looked more ready for something. "Robin?!" I called. He looked at me as if I had startled him, accidentally releasing his arrow just then and falling off the tree branch--from his loss of balance, I assumed--landing in the bushes below. I gasped and quickly rushed over to him.
Taking a moment to look him over now, I discovered his coon hat propped lopsided on top of his hair, and his arms and legs were sprawled out, crooked and such. Quickly, I took a hold of his hand and pulled him to his feet. A few twigs and leaves stuck out of his hair and he held a broken crossbow. With discomfort on his face, he fixed his hat. "Are you alright, Robin?" I asked. He looked at me rubbing his forehead in pain.
"Yeah...I guess..." he mumbled.
"I do apologize, I didn't mean to startle you."
"It's okay," Robin said.
"And sorry about your crossbow," I said looking over his broken crossbow, "I just saw you and was curious..." Robin was busy picking the leaves and twigs out his hair. I touched his arm to get his attention. He stopped and looked at me. "What is it you were hunting?"
"A neverbird," He said as he started walking to the place his arrow struck. I followed close behind him.
"Oh, well, how are you doing?" I asked thinking about last night. He continued his trail to the arrow. Once meeting it, he picked up the arrow out a bush.
"What do you mean?" Robin asked walking back to the tree. "I'm fine," he finished.
