"Melissa, answer the damn phone," I muttered impatiently, biting my nails as I waited for her to answer. My back was straight against the wall, helping with my composure. The speaker clicked from the other end, causing my foot to stop tapping.
"What do you want from me?" Melissa teased, shuffling noises evident in the background. She cursed under her breath and waited for my response.
"A greeting would be nice," I laughed, looking up at the ceiling. "I have another problem, Mel."
"What now?"
I sighed and walked over to my bed, sitting anxiously on the edge of it. The mattress shifted and the edge was weighed down by my body.
"I kissed Tyler," I blurted, feeling my hands become sweatier by the second. A gasp was heard from the other end, Melissa's shrill voice screaming shortly after.
"Jasmine! Does Justin know?" She questioned.
Biting my lip, I pulled at the covers on my bed and clutched it tightly in my fist.
"We kind of made out in front of him in the parking lot," I said quietly, the realization hitting me that what I had done was completely childish.
"You do realize that Justin really likes you, right?" She replied quickly, then cursed at me.
Groaning, I leaned back until my body hit the mattress and my eyes were glued onto the bumpy ceiling of my apartment.
"Now I do," I said shakily, feeling my lip begin to quiver. "I don't know why I did this. I shouldn't have done it."
Melissa sighed, her breath echoing through the phone.
"Tell him to come to your place. Talk to him about it and tell him how you really feel. You keep acting like you don't care about him, but you do, Jas. You really do," Melissa ranted, the sound of the television trailing behind her voice.
Feeling my eyes well up with tears, I sniffed and took a deep breath.
"You're right. Let me call him. I'll let you know how it goes," I replied sadly, my voice cracking. She wished me luck and made kissing noises into the phone, making me laugh begrudgingly.
After ending the call, I held the phone tightly to my chest and felt my heart rate increasing. My knuckles clenched as my fingers gripped the device.
"Here goes nothing," I breathed out nervously, tapping on Justin's contact.
A few rings later, the call was answered with the clearing of his throat. His voice shook slightly, giving me the impression that he was crying. My heart stung with guilt as I heard him speak.
"Uh, hey," He croaked, his voice gravelly and deep.
"Justin, come over," I said steadily, my leg moving up and down.
He cleared his throat again before answering.
"I'm busy. Maybe another time," He lied through his teeth. I knew that every Thursday after school was the only free time he had during the weekdays.
"Don't lie to me," I sighed, running my hand over my face. "Just come over because we need to talk."
"There's nothing to talk about."
Groaning, I moved my hair over my shoulder.
"Justin, I swear if you're not at my house in the next hour, I will raise hell," I scolded seriously, hearing him chuckle from the other end. "I'm serious, don't laugh at me."
