Punching my knuckles against the front door of Melissa's house, I felt my knees buckling and threatening to give out."Open the door," I hissed through clenched teeth, wiping my cheeks with the sleeve of my shirt. The door swung open a minute later, Melissa clutching her stomach in laughter as her attention remained behind her.
She took a deep breath in and contained herself, turning towards me and gasping as her eyes met with mine. Her jaw dropped and she pulled me in immediately, shutting the door behind us and holding my body tightly. I sobbed into her neck and felt her rub her hand along my back.
"Jasmine," She sighed sadly, her finger lifting my head up to look at her. "What happened, babe?"
I exhaled shakily and sniffed, shielding my face back in her neck. I felt another pair of arms wrapping around both Melissa and I, the manicured fingers smoothing my hair down.
"Let's talk about this," Shania whispered into my ear, pulling my body away from Melissa. I noticed that I had stained her shirt with my tears, shooting her a sympathetic gaze and Shania walked me over to the couch.
"Whose ass do we have to kick?" Melissa joked, trying to make laugh. I felt my hands growing sweater by the second as I played with the rips on my jeans.
Blinking to let out the last of my tears, I reached over to grab a tissue from the table and wiped my face down.
"Justin kissed another girl," I choked out, feeling hoarse from the continuous sobbing. Melissa's eyebrows knitted together, Shania's head tilting in confusion.
"Wait, wait, wait," Shania held her hands up. "Who is she and why was he kissing her?"
Taking in a deep breath, I swallowed the lump in my throat before responding.
"I never told you guys about her, but Justin's manager is basically paying this famous model to be with Justin for publicity. I didn't even know about this until recently. Someone in my psychology class let me know," I laughed pathetically. "He didn't even tell me himself."
Shania grabbed my hand, squeezing it reassuringly as I steadied my breaths. Melissa cursed under her breath and wiped her hands down on her lap.
"How did you find out they were kissing?" Shania questioned, brushing strands of hair behind her ears.
"I followed them and found them kissing at a restaurant. I know they have to be together for publicity, but this didn't look fake. Trust me, I know how Justin acts when he pretends to like someone. There's just something so wrong about this, and I don't know what to do anymore."
"What did you do after you saw them?" Shania asked, continuing to run her thumb over the top of my hand. "Did you confront him?"
"I just ran out of the restaurant. I guess he saw me because he followed me to the car and saw me crying. He tried to get me to open the door, but I just sped off because I couldn't bear to look at him."
Melissa sighed, passing me the tissue box as the tears began to flow down my face for what seemed like the millionth time today.
All of a sudden, loud knocks pounded from the other side of the door. We all averted our eyes in that direction, staring quizzically at the door.
"Are you expecting anyone?" Shania asked Melissa, watching her walk towards it. Melissa shook her head and shrugged, pulling the door open.
"Oh, fuck no. You better get out of here before I call security," Melissa roared at whoever was at the door, making Shania and I laugh. I tried to take a glance from the side to see who it was, but the door slammed in their face before I had the chance.
